Hi all,

My PC has been build and tried to install Windows 7 (Ultimate x64)... which... isn't really working... because I keep getting [ERROR: 0x80070045]. My SATA HDD is plugged into the motherboard with the 'SATA HDD input' (lower right corner), my BIOS settings about HDD is: AHCI (I don't have a RAID and I don't have a IDE input on the HDD so AHCI is the most logic one... also after googeling it was the one that was adviced but without a reason why...). Can you guys help me out with this uggly error? Thansk in advance! (have flashed the BIOS with the USB I think... is there a way to check the BIOS version inside BIOS?)

My stuff:
Mobo: Crosshair V Formula
CPU: AMD FX-6100
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 8GB - CMZ8GX3M1A1600C10 (NOT on Qualified Vendor List!)

HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB - ST31000524AS
Case: Raidmax Hurrican
Mouse: Steelseries Ikari Optical
Keyboard: Steelseries Shift
PC:
Case: Corsair 800D | Motherboard: Crosshair V Formula | CPU: AMD FX-6100 (3,3Ghz) | GPU: Asus GTX660-Ti (2GB) | RAM: Corsair Vengeance - 32GB @1866Mhz (4x8) | SSD: Crucial MX300 275GB (2x) | HDD: Seagate Barracuda 10TB + 2x3TB | PSU: Corsair GS800Watt | Monitor: AG Neovo L-WS24 (2x) | Seakers: Philips SPA9350/10.

You can check your BIOS version under the Main tab in the BIOS. the 1st screen should list BIOS Version.

I may be wrong but I think your error is a memory address error and you should try and run Memtest86+
Guide link: http://rog.asus.com/127362012/overclocking/memtest-user-guide-for-rog-motherboards/

Note: there is a free version of the program out there if you are asked to pay for it.

Should never have to pay for memtest86+ if like me you use the application heaps and really value it, you can make a voluntary donation to the guys, they do appreciate every little bit.

Run Check disk to fix any bad sectors.
a) Click on start and in the start search bar type cmd, right click on the command prompt icon in the programs area and then click on run as administrator.
b) Type X: (external drive letter) and press enter
c) At the command prompt type chkdsk /f and then press enter.
Now, type in chkdsk /r
Note: CHKDSK would try to recover bad sectors on the hard disk, during this process there are chances of DATA loss from that particular sector.

Hi guys,

Thx for helping! After hours of google-ing I found the solution... 'replace the SATA HDD for a smaller one', which I've done now (Samsung SATA HDD 320GB), and everything works as it should! however... I can't use my Seagate Barracuda 1TB SATA HDD, for somereason the BIOS (EFI) recognizes the SATA HDD but I can't make a 'partition' because Windows 7 - Ultimate (x64) won't allow me  I installed Windows 7 now on the Samsung SATA HDD and... no problems... the strange thing is now.. that I CAN'T find my Seagate inside Windows 7 (not even as 'empty' or 'unused' (or 'useless'). Do you guys have any idea's how to solve this?

Can't help but wonder if the missing HDD was a little faulty. Does it get picked up on a different system?

The Seagate HDD is only regocnized by the BIOS, everyother Windows version (I've tried with: Win2000, Windows ME, Windows XP (SP1 & PS2), Windows Vista (Ultimate) and Windows 7 (Ultimate) all said the same... can't partition the HDD...). So maby it's a bad HDD? ("Made in China" NOT "Made in Thailand" btw) Going to stalk Seagate and my seller then 😄

I've seen this a few times...By any chance was the HDD used in a Macintosh System or in Linux? I have found since Windows 98se that an HD formated under the GCC Partitioning of Mac/Linux has a problem with Windows Partitioning. In the past I used fdisk to redo it for windows but it had to be done a certain way with 3 restarts. when XP came out it got a hell of a lot tougher because I was forced to use a DOS version of Western Digital Tools or Partition Magic. Linux's GCC format is a little better in that you can reparation it usually in Windows but if you can't see the drive in windows then your going to need to do it the hard Way in DOS...Otherwise just toss it and get a new one.

The Seagate is Brand New, even if I conntect the HDD with other PC's it doesn't make any difference... non of them want to recognize the Barracuda 😞 Have requested help from the seller and Seagate, I'm curioius to what that leads...

Here's a crazy question for you....did you see if the drive was setup with a partition yet? if not, plug it in. Boot into Windows, right click on Computer, then down the list look for Manage. When the window loads up, down the left side and look for "Disk Management" under Storage...and let us know if it's showing up there 🙂

Nope... not in the list 😞 I can see my Samsung and my LG DVD drive 🙂
