Does it have virtual surround sound? If so how do you enable it? Furthermore does the Crosshair formula V have virtual surround via headphones??

Thanks

Hi Crayraven and yes it has virtual surround sound.

The onboard sound system is excellent on this MB and provides true Hi Fi with Supreme FX III Audio.
Reproduction of sound quality is also dependent on the quality of headset or Theater System you have.
You enable it by selecting the correct output.
Your MB is equipped with Digital Audio connector 4pin S/PDIF and Front panel Analog that supports HD Audio or Legacy AC'97. Front panel type is set in Bios. Of course you also have your Optical S/PDIF outport from your IO panel.

Edit: For DTS Ultra PC II, you can select it in the Realtek Audio Manager software. You can only make this selection in two speaker stereo mode. It does improve sound quality.

Hey Meanmachine,

Thanks for responding. I have a question. How do you set up the virtual surround? And is it positional?

I've tried to set it up a few times but I don't think I'm doing something right. Because I can't hear things that are behind me, on the side etc. Everything sounds like its coming from the left and right speaker.

I made a error, I have the Crosshair V Formula - Z board. http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/CROSSHAIR_V_FORMULAZ/

Hi Crayraven

Sorry I don't have a great deal of expertise in Audio. I have the Corsair Vengeance 2100 headset and use the 7.1 true sound surround and on that setting, I here positional sound. I have another set of Plantronics headphones and find using DTS Ultra PC II gives me better quality sound but no positional sound. I would just muck around with different settings to see how your headset responds and use the test function of the Realtek software.
