Does the Rampage IV Extreme fit 2 Asus HD7970 cards crossfire

Hello,

Read that the 7970 asus video card is wider than most higher end video cards. Will this fit crossfire into the first 2 x16 pci 3 slots on the asus rampage IV extreme?

It says the vid card takes 2.5 slots area instead of 2.

Regards,

It is designed to take that yes as there is a black slot placed with a three slot gap for the second card. This slot runs at PCI EX 3.0 x16 when only two cards are installed.

The Rampage can effectively take upto 3 of those cards with the lager coolers on.

Not so sure about crossfire, but with SLI you can't really run three DCUII 680s because of how you need to bridge them, there doesn't seem to be a flexible SLI bridge longer than 12cm, and the 3way PCB bridges (that don't fit on the DCUII680s anyways) are designed for slot 1-3-5, or 1-4-6, not 1-4-7. Unless theres some way of getting a custom SLI bridge, or a longer flexible one, since you need to took card 1 to card 2, card 2 to card 3, and then card 3 back up to card 1 (this is the part that doesn't work, I think you need a 15 or 16cm flexible bridge for this). When I add my 3rd DC2Top card I'll end up getting some EK blocks for them to turn them into 2 slot cards so they actually fit the bridge.

But 2 cards is fine, that's just in case you decide to add a 3rd card in the future.

Absolutely. I have two sapphire 7970's in mine and they fit fine even though they are extremely fat compared to the asus cards. One of my buddies has the asus ones and he's also running them in crossfire, so no probs. Bit disappointing that rog offers you so little in terms of Crossfire Bridges though. You literally get a mountain of sli bridges and 1 crossfire one. 😕 I like the rog crossfire bridge though, longer than your usual little bridge that you get.

Absolutely. I am currently running 2 Asus HD7970 is crossfire on the RIVE myself. I am now water cooling them which makes for more room, but they ran fine on air as well.

ok.i ask since i'm trying to win 2 of my current monitor used on ebay (no longer available..P2770H from samsung). Since they are dvi, compared to the new version which is only HDMI, i can still use it for 3 mon eyefinity (something about how the hook up is; too long to explain but apparently 3 hdmi won't work).

So..not sure if current vid card can handle Serious Sam 3, all settings maxed running on 3 27 inch 1920x1080 resolution 🙂 hence may need to get new vid cards.

(I have a single 5970 currently, on an i7-3930k)
