Houndazs, thank you very much. But I need a program that will recognize the drive without having a drive letter.
This program does it and it seems to really works well, but is cost some $$. www.getdata.com
Any other suggestions much appreciated.

PM sent about what you're looking for

I should of made myself clearer. The only one I found that works with drives without a letter designator is www.getdata.com

.
There is no such thing as free. Freeware usually only has limited functionality as a trial for paid versions. Anything that you get that is free is usually crap, with a lot of limitations. Just bite the bullet and take this as a learning experience to always have a backup.

I thought if your drive gets formatted then you destroy your data?

Nope u just "tell" the OS that the clusters are free to be over written. Im CHFI certified, and with the right tools ANYTHING can be recovered!
