Hello ROG world
Thanks in advance for any help you can give.
The specs to my new machine (still in the shop):
R4E
Intel Core i7-3970X 3.50GHz
Thermaltake 2.0 extreme
2x Samsung 840 Pro Series 256GB
MSI GTX 690
Dell UltraSharp U2711 2560 x 1440 Resolution
2x Corsair Vengeance 32GB (4x8GB) DDR3 PC3-15000 C10 1866MHz XMP Quad Channel Kit CMZ32GX3M4X1866C10As a bit of background this build was originally with the sabertooth mb but due to an issue with a cooler
(which I wont name here but some will surely guess), my supplier kindly agreed to swap cooler and mb
(which entailed a new case as well). So I am a little reluctant to give them any more grief as to date they
have given A1 customer support.
My problem is on reading Arne's excellent guide to ram, on this forum (wish I found it earlier), that the ram I have ordered is probably not the right one on two counts at least:
1) Its 2 kits. I was unaware of this binning scenario and kits of 8x8 were not on suppliers lists (I am not sure if the supplier should have worked this out).
2) R4E and vengence dont get on apparently.
Originally this ram was for sabertooth but on using corsairs ram finder this ram is on the list so I didn't change it.
Now I read this post and need some advice. Initially I don't intend to oc this rig (but who knows the more speed you get the more you want) but I do want full speed on components I have, especially the ram.
As you can tell I am trying to drag myself into the 21st century here so any advice as to settings, bios revisions or the need to change the ram would be great. As I have said the rig is still in shop and I don't know what bios etc. it has. I am trying to be prepared here as I am not sure if the supplier will do any more updates as the last one didn't go well.
I also need a better understanding of what frequency I should be running with 64gb. Should I use XMP or not.
Thanks for being here.
