Curious result on boot speed-up of Win7 Pro 64 between two PCs.

Hi people,

There is a strange inconsistency between the loading speed of my PC Win 7 Pro 64, and an other PC, between the lights of the Microsoft logo, to the desktop ready for use.
My PC takes 18 seconds and is structured as follows:
Rampage bios 4E 4206 Nodens
i7-3930K @ 4600 Mhz
16G Ram @ 2200 Mhz four ch.
C: drive Raid0 of two Vertex 4, connected in Intel SATA3 port, rst 12.9
Average transfer rate Attobench about 780-800 MB / sec
LINX indicate 156 Gflops
Win 7 pro 64 with 2 startup programs, and 48 active processes.
Transfer rate of simple file around 10 GB , like a lightning!

The other PC takes 11 seconds and is structured as follows:
Rampage 2E, last bios Asus
i7 920 @ 3800 Mhz
6 G Ram @ 1600 Mhz tree ch
C: \ drive with 1 Vertex 4, connected in port sata2 Intel.
Average transfer rate Attobench about 220-240 MB / sec
Win 7 Pro 64 with 3 startup programs, and 56 active processes.
Transfer rate of simple file around 10 GB, fast... but not excellent!
LINX indicate 48 Gflops

Where can be the reason for the slowness of Windows load on my PC?
Thanks to all.

The lights of the Microsoft logo indicate that the process has handed over to OS.

Hi HiVizMan,
In other words it means that the references to decide the boot speed is incorrect? I have translated well?
If so then what references should I take to verify this speed?
For now, thanks HiVizMan

To measure boot speed start from the moment you power your system on and stop when you see the start of the Microsoft logo.

After than is all OS.

Your question in the first post was asking about after the OS start - that is how I understood your original question.

Ok HiVizMan,
Also i take the time from power of the PC to the appearance of the logo lights .... but in every case you can not deny that it is unusual for a PC three times more performance in most of the other uses five seconds to prepare your desktop!

Honestly I do not see what is wrong with those times. Each platform has different stuff going on. The one platform is running a RAID array, try without the raid and see if that is having an impact. It also depends what the processes that are starting are. Some will be quick and others will be slow it depends on the process.

Bottom line this is not really a hardware support issue so I am not really sure what I can do to help you here.

Ciao sandro c!

Can I ask....does your PC spend 18 seconds at the windows logo before going to desktop? or total boot time?

Are these fresh OS installs? or well used with all the quirkiness of a well aged wine;)

Hello Arne happy to hear you,

unfortunately it is not the fault of the old wine, (perhaps could be a fault of the old technical), not a fresh installation, but an abnormality verified by observing the speed of windows load the PC of my son, three times less as performance, but the best to load the O.S.
The times recorded are those timed from when the PCs show the message "Starting Windows" and the lights begin to form the Microsoft logo until the moment when the desktop is ready.
The startup programs are the same on both computers, and processes are a dozen more on the PC of my son .... nevertheless this PC takes less than 5 seconds of my PC! I do not understand how he can do!
As like if my Raid0 ... sucks, but it is not, because writing a file of 10 GB, mine is much faster. What do you think?
Ciao

Hmm it's just a guess but I would wonder about the RAID setup...maybe loading drivers for raid or something else is taking a long time....I definitely think it's OS more than hardware related at that point...I would bet a fresh install of W7 on a single SSD would be faster. Of course once the RAID is up and running then sure it's fast...

Is internet up and running straight away?

Yes, Arne
is exactly the proof that I've been meaning to do.
Now I'll make a backup of my system with Acronis, I will break my Raid0 and i will install a fresh system on a single Vertex4 in sata 3 port and try again.
As for my current RAID0 has a 64KB buffer, which I tested to be the best compromise of speed between 64 and 128.
I do not understand what you mean but for your info Internet is immediately usable.
Hello, just ready I'll let you know the results.
