Crosshair V Keyboard Issues

Retired

Hello Everyone;

I am new to this forum and new to ROG as well. I'm looking forward to getting up to speed on all the latest things out there.

I just purchased and installed the ASUS Crosshair V Formula. Installation was a bit tricky, but after some tweeks in the BIOS, I was able to get up and running.

I am running a dual-boot of Windows XP x64 and Windows 7 x64. At first everything was working fine, but now I am having an issue. I can't use the keyboard until I am fully booted into windows. I have tried both a PS/2 and USB keyboard and both have the same results. The result is that I can't boot into Windows 7 because I can't select that option. I can't select the options menu to boot into safe-mode or use the keyboard at all, until Windows boots and then I can use all the functions just fine.

I have setup an RMA to exchange the board, but was hoping someone else had this issue and had resolved it.

Welcome T..07,
and you have tried a different ps/2 keyboard?
how did u get into bios?
mouse? usb? does that work when in bios?
the usb is also tricky on this board...
have you removed any usb devices, maybe moved
them around between boots??
very interesting... lots of tech savy folks here, more tech than I,
they are always around, hang in there...someone will be by anytime now..if above doesnt
turn on a light.
but, WELCOME TO ROG, enjoy.c.

chrsplmr;

Thank you for responding.

This is a strange issue indeed, because I am able to get into the BIOS and even install a fresh copy of Windows using the PS/2 keyboard (the USB did not work). However once the installation was completed, I was back to the same issue, could not select the Windows boot menu, could not use keyboard until Windows was loaded.

Two more examples of my issue are;

When I need to do a soft-boot, (Ctrl + Alt + Del), I am not able to do this, I have to reset using the case buttons.

If Windows crashes and then loads with the Windows boot menu, I can't use the arrow keys to make a selection there either.

I have tried more than one keyboard and I have also tried to move the USB plug around, the results are the same, which is why I finally put an RMA on the thing. If there is no resolution by Monday, the motherboard is going to be shipped back.

Thanks Again

Try a different USB port. What keyboard is it (make and model plus revision number)?

Clear CMOS and cycle power by turning off at AC. Reboot the board and see if you can get into UEFI.

If you can, then power down at AC again, remove two modules of memory and flash to UEFI 0705.

I was able to update the BIOS to 0705, but this did not help.

The keyboards that I've tried are;
Logitech USB G15
Microsoft PS/2 Natural
Generic PS/2

All of these keyboards work perfectly on different machines.

Things That I've Tried;
Update BIOS from 0404 to 0705.
Reconnected and remapped all USB devices.
Tried Multiple keyboards.
Called ASUS Tech Support (not a fun trip).
Installed Windows on a fresh Hard Drive.

Results: No Difference...No Keyboard.

Thanks,

I installed new keyboard/mouse configuration logitech mx5500 and get that problem too.
My solution was that i move mouse at the same time as i press delete.
Al so there is very little time to press del when you have fullscreen enabled on BIOS.(at least when you have raid setup to boot)
So change that to disabled from "boot" setup could help in future.

I hope this helps on your problem. Cheers Mummy

If Sherlock Holmes were on this case, he would have said right off,

"...your issue is in your motherboard ole chap and if BIOS can't remedy the issue, than there is no other choice, but to remove it and replace with another."

A PS/2 keyboard does not need any software and the BIOS should detect it and connect with it by default...

I updated the BIOS, which made no difference, but I was hoping there would be something that I missed...a switch or setting that someone had discovered.

So the story ends, I replaced the MB and it's working normally....???? So I think.....!!!!

Are there issues people with G-series Logitech gear should be looking for? When it's not blue screening (And I don't think it's due to my Logi gear) my G510, G700, and G930 are working fine, minus the minor bug of the G510 flashing when I hit a key before Windows is loaded.
Maximus V Formula/3770k@4.5/XFX 7970BE @ 1150/1600/Vengeance 1600/HAF XB/AX850

I have the same problem , and the cause is 2 other input devices i have connected to the computer MY Joystick and some thrustmaster usb MFDs, if i unplug theses then my keyboard work in bios ,with these connected keyboard first comes on in windows ,i have written to Asus and got three answers on things to try i treid them but the problem persists.
i have not heard from asus and it looks like they have closed the case with out finding the cause .
i think it is in the bios the problem lays.
start of with just your keyboard and mouse and add your other stuff one by one restarting everytime you put another device on untill you find which one it is.
Did you RMA the board and did you replace it with another Crosshair V
