Crosshair V Formula Z , Windows 10 pro and Code 40 Problems

I was running windows 7 and upgraded back to windows 10 pro. After 10 finished installing and updating, i reinstalled
the gtx 970 x2 sli graphic driver with a clean install. Started playing GTA V and after 10 minutes or so I heard a popping sound
like the sound some thing makes when its getting hot, and I noticed that code 40 had appeared on the mobo after it happens, but never
seems to change how my pc is running or hasn't yet. This never happened on windows 7...
Could this be bad for my mobo and who needs to know this, windows or ASUS?
This happened before and is partly why I went back to windows 7 the first time.
Thanks.

Hi Ro Gamer and Welcome to ROG.

Qcode 40 is your system telling you it has awakened from the S4 sleep state. (set from your power plan)
Monitor your temperatures in Windows using HWMonitor or you can check temps in Bios at idle.
Your system may cope with the H80i at 4.7GHz but not at 5.0GHz turbo. (Unless your in Norway)

The Corsair H80i is borderline cooling for the FX-9590 and may just handle 4.7GHz. It will most likely throttle if set at 5.0GHz.
Idle temps should be Ambient + 10C and 60-65c under load. (Stress Testing and depending on cooler)
I have Corsair H110 and just copes at 5.2GHz under load.

Can't help with the popping sound but your nose will tell you if a component is burning.:(:(

My System Specs:

MB:ASUS ROG Crosshair VII Hero/WiFi GPU:EVGA GTX 1080 sc PSU:Corsair AX-1200i
CPU:
AMD R7 2700X Cooler: Corsair Hydro H115i Case: Corsair Carbide 780t

Thanks much MeanMachine for your help. I wasn't really sure what to look for in bios, but i found cool and quiet
and enabled it and so far no code 40 just code AA and no popping no cracking. Will still get a new cooler though.
