Crosshair V Formula Z - Stable/cool system, go to bed, wake up with 0c qcode. Repeat.

I don't get it. I'm using the right memory timings, and otherwise factory settings for my processor. It runs fine, cool, and stable. I've benched it, stress tested it, stability tests. Everything's fine. I go to bed, turn it on, get the 0c qcode, and no post. Reset bios, set everything back exactly how it was the day before, and it works until it's been off for a while again. What info do you guys need from me to get this fixed?

Chris, thanks for the tip! I guess you posted that while I was writing that huge post o_o I will try this before I try my last idea. I hope this works!

Thanks haxor, and yes Myk, I put in all the timings manually. It still didn't post after 5+ hours of being off with 2400 MHz, as well as when I just left EVERYTHING to factory settings, including the detected ram speed of 1333. As I said originally, it runs fine at 2400 MHz, but when I leave it off for several hours, it won't post anymore. I can shut it down and as long as I start it back up again in maybe less than 3 hours or so it's fine.

Anyway, I talked to Asus support today, and they told me to try rolling back the bios. However, the versions they suggested I use give me a broken English error message when I try to flash the bios, saying they aren't compatible. I'm guessing it has something to do with this 9590, because one of the bios updates mentions that it added support for "newer processors" with a broken link to what exactly qualifies as a newer processor.

Before I updated my bios through Asus' automatic updater (new one is dated Feb 2014), I was having issues posting as well, as in it froze at the ROG screen. I thought I would have to start over, so I unplugged my wireless keyboard/mouse combo to plug in the wired keyboard/mouse and suddenly it continued to post! Flash forward to today... I'm looking at this list of bios updates, and the most recent one is dated this month and the only update it lists for this new one is improved USB support for windows 8.1 64 bit, which is what I'm using.

I had been having massive intermittent lag spike issues using Logitech unifying software for my m510 mouse and k360 in windows 8.1, and I guess there was even a firmware update for the keyboard recently. On top of that, my Logitech wireless headset was also having some similar issues. I know windows 8.1 changed how USBs are handled, and manufacturers are scrambling to make compatible devices.

So my plan of attack at this point: I'm at work right now, and I had my comp set with the new usb friendly bios, ram set to 1866. If it posts when I get home, hooray! If it doesn't, I'm going to set everything back to factory again, remove my usb devices and/or unplug the whole damn thing when I go to bed, and see if I can get it to post when I wake up. I've got a buddy who has some 1600mhz ddr3 he can let me borrow if this fails, but I'm running out of ideas.

Anybody have any more advice? I feel like I really need the help of the community here.

I would hit the CLRCMOS button on your I/O panel and then reflash your BIOS from within the BIOS using the EZ Updater tool. You're lucky you didn't brick your BIOS chip doing the update from within Windows.

Why would they have a bios updater (or for that matter, an auto-updater) in windows if there were a risk of bricking the bios?

chris635 I could kiss you. It works. You're a life saver. My ram isn't rated for ECC, but I guess the bios can't detect that. I had thought of checking timings, but not that. Thanks so much to everyone here for your help.

Save this Kisses dude LOL! Glad I could help. I see so many people in this forum with all these problems and most of them are related to ECC being enabled. Why Asus enabled this as default is a mystery to me. Most people don't use error correction ram unless your building a server or work station. Heck most people don't even think about this kind of ram when shopping.

I guess I spoke too soon. The 0c code is gone, but now starting my computer is like priming a lawnmower. It goes through the normal boot process normally, and then cuts off. Repeat this process maybe 5 or 6 times, and it boots up fine.

I feel like I should add that I don't have anything plugged into the cpu fan 4 pin connector. Instead I have the 2 fans for the radiator plugged into a 12w fan controller, and the pump plugged into a 5w molex adapter. I feel like I don't hear the pump kick on until it actually decides to boot. I think I'll try putting all 3 of them into the fan controller and running at 7w. I just can't run that pump at 12 watts, it emits this high pitched squeal that would drive a man mad.

Anyway, I've included one last picture -- more ram config. If you guys have any more info/ideas... I'd love to hear em. This thing is driving me crazy.

If I remember correctly. You need to set the cpu fan to ignore if nothing is connected to it.

I'm starting to think this could be a power supply issue. I'll look for the CPU fan setting. I've just turned off the "wait for f1 if error" to circumvent it up to this point. I have another power supply that should be able to run this box just fine, it's just a few years old. Still, it's never given me a problem, so it's my only "known good" at this point.
