Crosshair V Formula - Z Q-code d2

I'm pretty puzzled as to this error.

The motherboard goes through a series of codes before landing on that d2 one. It sits on d3 for about 5 seconds then 98 for about 5 seconds then sits static on d2 with nothing on screen. The monitor itself doesn't even power up.

First thing I did was swap graphics cards and it still had the same result. Next thing I tried was to clear the cmos with the button on the I/O panel.

I then striped it down to is simplest config: 1 stick of ram in the furthest dimm from the cpu and no drives nor pci devices save a graphics card. I also tried several sticks of ram in the same dimm. I also inspected the cpu for bent pins and found none. I also took the Li backup battery out for 5 minutes with the power plug unplugged.

After all that still the same code d2.

I looked up the code in the user manual and its: PCH initialization error.

I have done nothing recently to the build cept installed a new sound card about a month ago and a corsair h80i around the same time. I hope its something I can solve myself as this will be the second ROG board to be RMA'ed by me in recent times.

Please remove the sound card and see if the problem is fixed up.

I got the board on the bench with the stock cooler on it and the only things installed are the 1 stick of ram in the far right DIMM, cpu, and nvidia 650ti. I cross tested the graphics card and ram and PSU all those work fine on other systems. I don't have another board to test the AMD cpu which is too bad but I don't see anything obviously wrong with the cpu. There was about a span of 3 weeks with the corsair h80i and soundcard where the machine did work fine. I only did a light OC with this board at 4.2 for a time after I had the corsair cooler installed. Only used the built in asus software (turbov evo) to do that.

I'm thinking its northbridge controller stuff maybe. But I don't know.

I currently have the psu I was using in the amd rig in my old p8z77-v pro board with i5-3570k. Working fine.

Ah right I did not pick up that the board had/has worked perfectly. Can you roll back with a systems restore to before you installed the sound card please.

Since the error the screen doesn't even turn on. I've tried 2 different graphics cards which both work in other builds. This board only has a option to clear the cmos. There's no usb bios flash back or anything.

I don't know what happened but I was able to boot the board up. So I flashed the bios with the lastest and greatest 1503.cap. Everything seems to be fine so far. Going to add the g.skill ram and see if I can boot into OS. Good thing too I start school next week and kinda need a computer to be working.
