Crosshair V Formula Z - AMD FX 8350 - Permanent CPU LED - Help needed

Hi all,

I have posted a similar thread in another section but im hoping someone in here may be able to help,

My comp recently randomly turned off, ever since it will turn on but not boot and has a permanently lit CPU light on MOBO.

I have flashed the bios, changed the processor to a cheap Sempron to try and rule out if my FX8350 is screwed. But the problem still persists. I literally have no idea what I can try.

Ive tried unplugging everything with just the mobo and processor connected with no change.

Does anyone please have any suggestions? Any advice would be appreciated.

Spec is as follows:

Crosshair v formula z
Amd fx 8350
16gb corsair vengeance ddr3 2133 ram
GTX 650 ti boost x2
Corsair h100 cooler
Corsair rm650 psu
Corsair air 540
240gb corsair force series ssd

Don't worry...we have a lot more trouble-shooting to do here which WILL be labor intensive just so you know.

First off we need to check that you have BOTH of the 4-Pin AND 8-Pin Aux CPU connectors populated (trust me on this one).

Secondly we need to check that you have the EZ Plug (molex connector closest to the CPU socket) populated; especially with two graphic cards

Be sure to remove all expansion cards; all usb devices (including the keyboard and mouse)

Next pull one of the graphic cards and only have one stick of memory in the motherboard (see the manual for which memory slot to put it in)

Now attempt to power-up the system...will the system even POST?

If not I think one of four things are messing your system up:

- try swapping the out the other graphics card
- try swapping out another RAM module

but I think this is where the problem really is:
- bad PSU
- Faulty H100 cooler (make sure to pull the USB cable out) and replace with the stock cooler (or at least connect your old cooling fan header to the CPU Fan Header on the m/b...if the m/b can't detect a fan spinning I believe it would cause the M/B to act as it was "broke" and attempt to access the BIOS)

This should keep you busy for awhile...post back with what you find out and please let us know what the "fix" is/was.

this happened to me the other day. unplug any powered USB 3.0 usb connections and the power should go away and it should "reset" and you could turn it back on. this is a suggestion as it worked for me when I had a similar issue.

Most important question: How did you update the BIOS? through Windows or with the EZ Update utility from within the BIOS?

Also have you tried using the CLRCMOS button on the I/O panel?
