Crosshair V Formula UEFI Mode

I am trying to install Windows 8 on my 3TB Seagate Barracuda however when I try to install I get the error "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk is not of the GPT partition style". I think that this is because the computer has booted into BIOS mode instead of UEFI mode, however I've heard that the Crosshair V Formula boots into UEFI mode by default so my conclusion might be incorrect. If this is not true, how do I boot the motherboard into UEFI mode? I've checked the settings in the BIOS and found nothing. Any help would be appreciated.

do you have the option for eliminating and formatting the disk during installation of win8? if so, that might help.

Yes, I've done that. I've tried formatting it as both GPT and MBR patitions however the maximum MBR partition size is 2TB, so the rest of my hard drive would be unusable.
