Crosshair V Formula - Thunderbolt card usable on an intel Gigabyte board?

Retired

Hello,

I have a friend who owns a Crosshair V Formula motherboard and he told me he's selling the Thunderbolt addon card as he's already got a better soundcard. I would love to pick it up at an instant, but will there be any compatibility issues with it?

Specifically, will it work on my intel GA-Z68X-UD5-B3 Gigabyte board + Asus Vulcan headset? Or is it limited to the Crosshair V Formula and the Rampage III Extreme only? Thanks in advance 🙂

You should be fine, as long as you can obtain/install the appropiate drivers.

Great, well I just had a look at the drivers for the card, and there appears to be separate ones for the LAN and Audio on the thunderbolt - so the drivers are not combined right?

Thunderbolt is a NIC and sound card built into one unit.

One driver could never be used for both components, one is needed for the NIC, the other for the sound.

I hate to be the jerk here but I can't help it. Don't put that fine Asus product on a Gigabyte board. It's like putting a chevy 350 in a 32 ford. yeah it works but it sucks at the same time. I know you can buy Asus sound cards and put them on any brand board, however that thunderbolt was made for the CHV. And it just seems wrong to bastardize that card by putting on that Gigabyte board. IMO.
