Crosshair V formula SPDIF crackling/popping noise

Hi, I just got my asus crosshair v formula and I'm seem to be having some problems with my spdif. It has crackling and popping noise ONLY when something is playing eg movies or songs or notifications, but when no sound is supposed to come out the crakling noise is gone. I tried using the normal 3.5mm jack input and it's fine, no crakling noise. Only my spdif.

I tried using this guide but it's still the same. Did that guide about 3 times.

Here are my specs in case needed.
Crosshair V Formula
AMD 8150
Corsair H100
Sapphire 7970
Silverstone 850Watt
16gbs of ram
Astro A40s.

I can think of only two things causing this.
1) a bad Cable try a different one.
2) A Miss-Configuration ie: look at mine:

This is how I have mine configured and I get Perfect Sound all of the time.

I've used your setup, the problem is not as bad, but still here. Would it be possible I damaged the wire when it's in my bag? I took it to a LAN party yesterday.

Yes that's completely possible and if you use the Fiber Optical one...well even more likely...I have a Draw fill of the Fiber cables that are damaged and waiting to be fixed and used someplace else.

So... Fibre cables are MORE fragile? oh greaatt. Alright, thanks for the response. I'll get myself a cable tomorrow morning and see if it works. It's 10 PM here now 🙂

hey i'm having the same exact problem, its not my cable. the cable hasn't been moved or tampered with since i upgraded to this board, im running the newest drivers (uninstalled old ones and restarted before installing new drivers) im also running bios version 1503, win7 64 amd FX8150 16 gig G.skill ram
i had a mobo and cpu go out on me, got those RMA'd and now since i've updated the bios i've had this popping and cracking. anyone else recommend downgrading the bios a version to see if this fixes?
any input would be great cause playing games sucks now because of this
