Crosshair V formula motherboard failure to boot

Hello all,

I have a Crosshair V formula motherboard with a AMD FX 8150 processor installed. I also have a graphics card and 4 gb RAM installed. The system does not boot past POST. At the POST screen an error message is displayed"USB Device Over Current Status Detected !! System will shut down in 15 seconds." The computer has worked before and I am unsure why it is not working now. The bios I am running is version 1703. More concerning than this message is that I cannot seem to access the bios via keyboard. I have been using a USB keyboard and am at the moment trying to get a PS2 keyboard to test if that works, however as yet DEL, F8 and F11 do seemingly nothing. On the POST screen the computer does acknowledge that one computer is connected. I have also tried replacing the BIOS chip as suggested on some of the other forum posts with no significant change noted. I do not know what to do and was hoping I could get some help here. I have seen similar topics however none have had an answer to this problem that has been of use.

An update, it is probably not the BIOS. I transplanted a new BIOS chip of the 0083 revision and I am still getting the same error. Really stuck on this one...

try plugging the usb keyboard in one of the usb 2.0 slots they are the black ones. my keyboard would not work in the usb 3.0 slots that are blue so i plugged it in the usb 2.0 black slot and it works.

I think what skellattar said may be the problem but I have seen a very similar issue when using a keyboard that has a usb on the keyboard and a joystick plugged into it.

Change key board if you can.

And if that does not help, see if you can swap out your PSU.

Alrighty, keyboards. I tried the keyboard in all usb slots, no dice. Keyboard always lights up and it says 1 keyboard attached in the post screen but I cannot achieve bios screen. I also attempted with a ps2 keyboard with again no results. I removed board from the case incase it was causing the grounding error some how. I got a multimeter to test that the grounding rail was connecting correctly to and along the path to the PSU and the ground pin. I swapped out the PSU with a known to be working PSU. Nothing...

Full Clear CMOS with CPU and all power cables removed. Take the battery out too.

leave for two hours and see if things have sorted them-self out.

Just hope the board is not dead.

Just an update, still not able to get it to work. I can see no reason why the board should be dead and I am taking comfort to the fact I still get a POST screen. I will give it a shot. I have also had suggestions to try a different processor, however I don't see how this will help. Still cannot access BIOS either. Would Flashing the BIOS be possible/ a good idea? And if so, I have had some trouble with the available flashing guides for the Crosshair V.

Could you share with us what the POST screen is that you are getting.

BIOS guide is very simple.

Download the BIOS.
Unpack the bios to a fat formatted USB stick.
In BIOS F5 and enter to set defaults.
Use the EZflash utility found in the tool menu of the bios.
Flash your BIOS following the on screen prompts.
Let your system do the reset and if needed a firmware upgrade.

That is about it.
