Crosshair V Formula - Memory Upgrade - Extracted from stability database thread

Creating this thread to keep the stability database thread as clean as possible:
Continued discussion from Page 8 of stability thread:

Memory: Corsair "Vengeance" (4x8GB) 1866MHz (Red Fins)
Part No: CMZ32GX3M4X1866C10R
10-11-10-27 1.5v & 1.55v & 1.6v (10-11-10 27 is the timing listed on the physical label)
10-11-10-30 1.5v & 1.55v & 1.6v (10-11-10 30 is the certified timing via their website... weird?)
ganged, unganged, cce on/off

Bought these looking to update the system a bit, was a bit hesitant at first because they're Intel Certified but was re-assured when I checked their website which said they were certified for both... memory is memory right!? Wrong... After several days of multiple setups I've not got one success story to share. I've tweaked the timings, the voltages, response times, all to no avail. I can get the system to boot into Windows 7 and everything looks good... until you try to do 'anything'. Web pages crash, It forgets where the installer is, Windows Mem Diag hates em, and benchmarks result in a hard freeze. At this point I feel I've tried all I can... I even attempted to talk dirty to it at one point... It's just not worth the trouble. I'm confident the memory is fine, it just doesn't play well with the Formula V and it'll probably be on amazon in the next day or three for resale.

Several of you here on this last page have several high frequency solutions I'm interested in, but I'm a bit leery on stability since there have been no benchmarks posted... as I said, I can get mine to boot and "look" ok... but I need a benchmark to tell me it fails. Not trying to insult anyone's intelligence here, I just don't know what all you've done to confirm it as "Stable" and at this point I'm looking to minimize further purchase risks.

- Marpole and AMD_Man_Clav, are your systems still pulling through? I imagine after a year you would have noticed so I'll take a yes/no in your case, lol. Provided you still haunt the forums from time to time

--Pharion and chrsplmr, I'm extremely interested in your solutions but would like a bit more information as to the systems you're running. Different processors seem to produce different results, either of you using the FX 8350 processor in your systems?

--chrsplmr you spoke of a 2133Mhz option you were toying with in another thread, I'm probably MOST interested in knowing how this option turned out for you, I'm after that extra speed after all, go big or go home!!

I realize I'm asking a lot of questions and I don't want to 'spam' up the database thread here, I'll make a new post and edit here with a link to it to keep things relevant and the database thread nice and tidy!! Thanks all for your help and advice!

Thanks again!!

New information I'm currently considering, kinda bouncing back and forth between here and the "build" forum soaking up all your guys' information like a sponge!! Learned a lot the past few days^^, really enjoying my time on these forums, lol. Anywho, down to business!! 😄 lol

Corsair Dominator Platinum 16GB (4x4GB)
DDR3 2400 MHz (PC3-19200) 10-12-12-31
PN: CMD16GX3M4A2400C10

Looking at these and drooling a bit, really sweating at the palms to try that 2400Mhz option that popped up in the BIOS after this weekends flash, LOL. Can't hang a carrot like that in front of me... GAH!!! I did however drop my desire for 32GB to the 16GB kit... logic kicked in after the price tags slapped me in the face, lol... dropping to 16GB drops about $200 off the tag. I've yet to go above 10GB really unless I'm torture testing, and I don't really see my usage changing much in the next 3 years which is the time frame I usually try to forecast my needs for.

And unfortunately once the logic starts its hard to get the Genie back in the bottle...

Corsair DOMINATOR Platinum 16GB (4 x 4GB)
DDR3 DRAM 2133MHz (PC3 17000) 9-11-10-30
PN: CMD16GX3M4A2133C9

1333Mhz CL9 - 13.5ns latency (current)
2133Mhz CL9 - 8.43ns latency
2400Mhz CL10 - 8.33ns latency

Soooo definitely wanna get a new set for that extra 75% speed jump between the 1333 to the 2133, but I'm not entirely certain the 2400 is worth the extra $40-$50 for an additional tenth of a nanosecond... Sadly... it looks like logic is going to prevent me from testing that sweet new 2400 number that appeared in my BIOS, lol... could always overclock the 2133 to the 2400... heh.

Whatcha think? Any concerns I've not considered? Can someone think of a reason i want the 2400 that I can't think of? I mean aside from the fact that 2400Mhz would look nice in my signature, lol.

Formula i used for latency was "(CL/Mhz) * 2000 = latency (ns)"
