Crosshair V Formula Issues - Help Needed

Hi everyone!

I'm having some problems with my MB and I was hopping someone here could help me out whit a solution...

I bought a Crosshair V Formula recently to pair with a Phenom II X4 960T.
This CPU has 2 extra cores factory locked wich i can unlock no problem with BIOS 0813 and 0903 but when i had it updated to 1102, after unlocking those cores the system won't even post.

Back to "older BIOS" (0903 or 0813) the unlocking works just fine but when i go for overclock that's something else is wrong with it...
Changing settings to manual and increasing the multiplier from 17.0 (stock) to 17.5 (example) it's not a big change...the settings are saved, the system reboots and everything works just fine...even when overclocking to higher speeds at this point, but after a shutdown, when booting up again the system won't POST and i have to reset BIOS setting to get it to work.

May this be a "defective" MB?

Thank You in advance.

The thing is does your motherboard do what it says it should do on the box? The answer here is yes it does. So it is a safe bet that you do not have a defective motherboard.

Now as to why your board will not do the same things it was doing prior to your urge to flash the bios to a bulldozer CPU one I can not answer sadly.

I can only guess that your settings that you used previously have maybe not been set in exactly the same way. It happens. Looks like you will be having all the fun of working out what your best configuration is. All over again.

I have had to do that a few times in the past. Now I only flash bios if something is broke.

Thank you for your fast and prompt answer.

I really don't care much about waht BIOS version I use, all I want is to use the board full potential...and i'm not getting it to work properly...

The latest BIOS won't even unlock those cores so i got back to the older versions...
On any version i can't use overclock functions since they only work until i shutdown the system.
If the overclock settings are applied whithout any problems and the system is stable after reeboot...i don't understant why the system is not even posting when booting up after a shutdown... 😞

It sounds like when you flashed back your have a little corruption in the BIOS.

Do a full clear CMOS with all power connectors and the battery removed.

Reflash and all should be good. It does happen from time to time that a bit of stuff gets scrambled when you flash back.

Hello again.
I tried what you suggested but with no successfull results...

Everytime i increase the multiplier (even by 0.5) it works just great after the reboot but when i shutdown it won't even post on next boot.
Then i shut it down again e power it up and get the message "overclocking failed".

Any ideas?

Is there anything i can do to troubleshoot this problem properly?

Thank You.

Ok, I found a way to solve my problem.

Instead of modifying the CPU Ratio, I left it as it was (maybe 17.0 is a max ratio) and increased the CPU Bus.

Now everything is working just fine! Stable and without booting issues!

Thank You for Your Help!

You know I never even wondered if your CPU was unlocked or not. Just goes to show, we tend to assume stuff instead of asking stuff.

Thank you for letting me know.
