Crosshair V Formula + Bulldozer = Me crying like a wee little babeh!

So I just bought the Crosshair V Formula and the Bulldozer to go with it, And my friend sent me a link to download some special BIOS update for it... But I am not sure if this fits my problem or if my Motherboard is actually dead, So please if anyone can tell me if this is the problem have that the C5F bios update fixes.

NOTE: I have everything in my system hooked up properly, I have changed out my Graphics Card too another and it still happens. I have switched monitors & replugged everything in 4 TIMES!

Okay so I have everything in my DF-85 (oh yeah :P) and when I actually start the computer it DOES power on however 90% of the time it doesn't POST (I believe that is what it's called when it shows up I have "this much RAM and this processor" (Basically the computer ALL the fans and lights turn on), And it says you're BIOS hasn't been setup hit F1, After I hit F1 I go into the BIOS fine. The computer never shuts down and doesn't heat up it's well ventilated.

I mean literally I have to wait around an hour for it to actually POST and go into the BIOS.After I edit the BIOS to my liking or even don't edit it and save/quit and restart it doesn't boot again for some time.

When it does the "Post" It shows my 8 Gigs of RAM, And my Processor just fine... Can anyone tell me if this is the problem that the BIOS update fixes please? So I know and am not just wasting my time waiting for my PC to actually POST and nothing happens when I try to update it.

Also A friend of mine told me all I do is put the .ROM into an empty Thumbdrive and it HAS to be in before the POST starts. Is this right?

Crosshair Vengeance 8GB (2x4)
XFX AMD Radeon 6950 2GB
PC Power & Cooling Silencer MK|| 950W
Antec Darkfleet (DF-85)

The system takes a lot of time to boot because bulldozer is a very slow cpu. you should replace it with a core i5 ( check ebay for an AM3+ to socket LGA1336 converter )... kidding..

now, the serious part:
- to cut time between power-on's, you can disconnect your power supply ( remove the power cord ), push the power-on button of your case ( this will drain the remaining energy still stored on the motherboard capacitors ). Connect the power cord again and your pc should boot.

the best guess at your problem, should be your bad memory configuration ( speed, voltage, timmings ). This is the number one source of problems related to the CrossHair V.
There's a sticky to get you sorted out with that. try to get your board stable enough to flash the latest bios.

Okay thank you, So you don't believe the board is dead? I mean when It does BOOT there is no problems whatsoever until I restart again. I am just worried I have something broken.

Now I do drain it on a regular basis but it still doesn't boot. I mean literally I could go eat dinner with it not booting come back an hour later and it will boot once... After that I Save/Quit and Reboot and it doesn't boot for quite some time.

Use only one memory module in the slot furthest from the CPU. Disconnect all USB devices apart from the keyboard and mouse and see if this affects POST behaviour.


If the info above helps the board to POST, then you may need to adjust some memory timings. For that, check here:

I inserted one memory module like you said & Disconnected any and all USB devices except the Mouse/Keyboard and it doesn't effect it at all.

Could be a PSU issue, do you have another unit to test on the board?

No I don't have another PSU. Everything is brand new from Newegg, And the PSU powers just fine... I mean when it does POST it can run for over an hour (the longest I've tested it) and have no issues at all. That is where I am stumped. It HAS to be this BIOS update thing... I may not know much about Hardware but I do know that if the PSU and the RAM and the Graphics Card AND EVEN the Processor can run for an hour on the BIOS it can't be hardware. (To my knowledge)

just an experience i had about a year ago my stepdaughters pc was booting up really slow like 5 -10mins slow and shortly after that her psu died,and on that same pc she has a cheap mob intended for maybe 2gb ram total i installed 4gbs that really slowed down the boot speed, and did you try to change your boot sequenceyou know 1st boot 2nd boot etc. my asus m4n72-e mob was wierd it would never boot on 1st boot always 2nd boot " good luck"

Thanks for the information. I do doubt it's the PSU or how the BIOS is setup. I do however know it's the problem between Crosshair V Formula & the FX Processor... Which sadly isn't getting "fixed" just kinda "rigged", I mean $1300 for a new pc and this? I am not an intel fan at all but really... This disappoints me to the max, I refuse to buy another Processor I just wish there was information out there to get the "UPDATED BIOS CHIP" sent to me from ASUS...

A bad PSU can behave in mysterious ways.
I've seen this issue before, the same as you're describing, so don't rule it out unless you're absolutely certain.
More than likely a memory or bios issue though, which version did you update to?

And did you clear the CMOS after updating the bios?
