crosshair v formula acting stupid

when i first boot up sometimes my antivirus isnt active,it seems to be working it just shows not active and then it will just turn on,takes anywhere from 10 -30 mins,,,ive uninstalled and reinstalled many times tried to repair many times,it wont turn on till it decides to,then all is well...other issue is when i first push internet explorer it hangs there for about 5-6 secounds,sometimes it pops up fast,,almost seems when 1 page is running the rest pop up fast and normal,,so its the first page that hangs.....i've also uninstalled network driver and reinstalled several times''Intel (r) 82583v gigabit network controler....ive reset cmos, changed sata cables,new HDD with clean install of windows 7 64 bit,moved ram to secound slots,installed 2 new sticks of ram i had already, moved them to secound slots,so right now i have 16gbs of gskill ram running at 1600mhz,crosshair v formula,1090Tx6,asus gtx570 dcII,seagate sata 1 tb,,,,also when my antivirus shows inactive i cant get itunes to open,but ive played games,run prime95 all while the antivirus is inactive and everything seems stable,,,,i,m running 0705 bios version,,and the system is running stock clocks except ram is at XMP 1600mhz 9-9-9-24-40-2T,,,,, i'm lost with this issue,i dont know what else to do,no errors have been shown

Laugh off AVG please. Not going to slag it off but the Microsoft freeware is better.

When you do your install of the OS, if you do that is, remove all the other hard drives except the one you are installing the OS on. Once you have done the install and graphic drivers then only reboot and fit the other storage drives if you are using any.

You will see a different I can promise you.

Thanks for the tip, I've been considering MS Security Essentials for a while.
Avast has become bloated and I've noticed WIn 7 takes longer to boot.
Installed Essentials this AM, so far it looks good and my boot time is now faster.

now don't forget to take a drive image for next time ..and keep it safe on a spare drive .. really cuts down on all the crap you have to load on ..

Hey NemesisChild I must say it is a surprise even to me how efficient the MS Sec Essentials is. I had some post grad students do a test of a couple of the available AV suites and SE came in really high even against the paid for opposition. So ditched my paid subscription (still had 18 months to go) and put this into a machine downstairs. Since then each new build has been MS SE.

just a quick question.. did they test kaspersky and how did it fair ??

Kaspersky gets very good ratings from the independent AV labs and for good reason. What we were looking at was protecting a new system, or as they say in the trade a clean system. And more significantly systems that are not all that new and therefore not that powerful. The lan that the PC's were being fitted into was being populated with quite old hardware. Budgets are so tight that they could not buy new every three years like they used to. So we thought it would be a good exercise to see what was on offer and which AV best suited our needs. And of course it was a very handy way of making the students think about real world stuff and not just have their heads in the clouds locked into theory only.

There were better AV products than MS SE, and MS SE does not have the quickest scan in the world. 🙂 But it is very good on a clean system and keeps a clean system clean. Plus very low on the overhead of the system resources.

You will be amazed at what turned out to be the best thing we saw and tested. My money had been on NOD32 actually but that was not to be. Webroot SecureAnywhere Antivirus had the smallest footprint of all and scored near perfect out performing all the big guns. Downside is you have to pay for it. 😛 We went for the MS SE because of cost, and our needs. Nearly three months on and the systems are still in good nick in the LAN.
