Crosshair V first DRAM_LED blinking, now solid CPU_LED

Hi, I'm new to the forums here so nice to meet you all, and sorry it's under what seems to be circumstances soo many are experiencing.

So I bought all new parts to build my new computer and figured I'd give this board a shot from the newegg reviews and board features. I'm not overclocking at all, I just want it to work first, then I can do that at a later point.

Sigh..

Out of all the computers I've built, this has been such a nightmare with this board. So like many, everything assembled great. Then I turn it on.... 1long, 2short Beeps on DRAM_LED, reseated ram, still nope. Was really late so left it like that. Next day same thing. tried it in red slots, then brown, same thing. Couldn't work on it for a couple days. checked the forums here and tried all options, reseated them 1 at a time, switched to 1 DIMM in slot 4 and oooh it gets into the BIOS but freezes up, then after resetart, here comes the DRAM_LED and beeps again. cleared settings and started again into bios, switched to easy bios and set the specs to normal performance. got it to restart. Now got to where it wants to start loading Win 7 x64 files for install WOOHO....Freezes again, sigh. restarts no display and no beeps, restart again, DRAM_LED and 1 long 2 short beeps repeatedly. (skipped a few restarts in explanaition where the DRAM_LED and beeps were repeated as above)

(All four lights on board are green)

Saw on the forum to try updating the bios. used my old comp got 0506 and got it to boot back to bios again. went in and ran the update, DAMN THING FREEZES during update. Left it hoping it was just maybe the display for a few mins, nope, restarted and NOW I get a solid CPU_LED. cleared RTC, tried jumpers and all to reset to defaults. still solid CPU_LED now and no DRAM_LED at all anymore. Everything out of the case, just processor on board with 1 DIM in 4th slot now and still solid CPU_LED. This board is a nightmare, is it dead now thanks to the bios freeze up or did it kill my processor? Any advice would be appreciated, Thank you.

Here's my specs:

You lost me in the end there. Is it '..still solid RED_LED' or dead? Still solid LED..
Did you try the other slots?...lane 3 is what worked for me. And really look at the
ram slot to make sure it seats..no disrespect on your skills...(hey it happens)...
The board is out of the case, so that rules out a stand or something shorting
it out...
any other ddr3 to try?
The official Asus OC Video for the C5F by JJ on youtube... uses corsair.dominator.gt
(not on the list) I think from what the others have said, it is
the compatibility of a particular ram stick and particular cpu...
At this point there is no saying..this ram works with this cpu..some mate perfect
for some..while others with the exact same cpu/ram..dont.

This is a BullDozer board...I have said it this way before..we are trying to squirt
diesel through a nitrous nozzle..good luck...If you can..get some (other) ram.
(but save those 4gb'r's for BullDozer..there gonna come in handy.c.

Sorry, I did throw alot in on that post and I'm kinda frustrated so my apologies, it's been about 5 days with no luck. The current status of the board is a solid RED CPU_LED. I reseated the processor after checking pins for any bends. When I first started with the components in at the very start of the build some days ago, they seemed to work briefly going into the bios with freezes at different times, to now it just sits with the solid red cpu_led soon as it's turned on.

best bet is wait for the bulldozer cpu. you need to be the best of the best or maybe lucky to make this board stable. they need to put this in their add.

Sucks bro. I think I will have to RMA my board that I just got due to the internal clock on the board counting every second as 6 or 7 seconds. SO my clock is all jacked all the time. Its kinda bullshit to be honest.

Well - for your issue, at first I was going to tell you what you needed to do to fix the freezing and lock up issues as I had it and I see what you have in common however now you cant turn it on. 8(.

If you do get it back on - you need to set the board to be able to accept 4gb sticks of ram.

In bios - Click Memory Frequncy, change it to your desred speed. (1600)
IN DRAM timing - Change DRAM read to read timing to 5 ( this is like the 3rd box from the bottom)
Change the DRAM Command Rate to 2T

Back out to main screen

in DRAM Voltage - change to your ram voltage ( You can check this in the Tool Box SPD screen. It will tell you the ram voltage - put that number here. )
CPU/NB Manual Voltage change to 1.20 from 1.15

This should get you past all the BSOD, Freeze, Crashes and more. I spent 3 days on this shit trying to get passed that. I have 12gbs at 2000mhz but I only put 2 sticks on at stock 1066 to get stable, the unit working, fixed things in the bios, and today added the third stick of 4gb and clocked them all at 1600 and Im doing super good.

Good luck to you bro - I understand what you say about the nightmare. Ive built so many systems for myself and business over many years and this board actually made me question myself that I didnt know wtf I was doing. lolol

At this point it seems good except my clock issue. Ill prob have to return it however Im not sure If Ill stay with this board. Im hearing Gigbytes UD7 is pretty baller.

I think I will go with the others here, and wait for bulldozer, YAY for RMA. Thanks all, and enjoy the rest of your holiday weekend

I'm gonna have to call newegg tomorrow because it's stating that now, dunno if it's due to time passing, that my proc is not qualified for a refund RMA. If I can't at all return the proc, may have to downgrade the board. Any comparable boards (Crosshair IV?) with like specs and trimmings anyone could recommend?

try the 890fx

K so spoke to newegg, can not RMA the processor, they don't take processors back, yay.... So gonna RMA the board now that I have one of the QVL listed memory sets (2x4Gb DIMMs) and give it another shot in case the board is F'ed by the freeze during BIOS update. If it still doesn't work then I'll downgrade. Kinda leaning towards Crosshair IV or is that as problematic??

ya RMA an AMD is a pain in the A$$ ......
