Crosshair V + Bulldozer No boot

hi, so all my computer parts have finally arrived

Crosshair V Formula (pre owned)

AMD Bulldozer FX-8150 (new)

Asus Radeon 6970 (Pre owned)

1 x Kombuterbay 4gb 1866mhz ram (new, only 1 dimm)

80gb SATA 7200rpm HDD

Evolabs 700 watt modula power suply

thats the specs, so the motherboard is pre owned, and it isn't in a good state, there is some kind of spillage on the back, it looks like there are tansistors and capacitors missing but in some pictures they are missing on them as well.

I get the 3 lights on, on the start reset and OC buttons ect. No other leds though.

I press the start button, nothing at all happens, I've reinstalled the cpu 2 times and tried booting with other things.

I'm guessing now it could be an issue with having only 1 dimm slot being used?

Thanks for reading, I would really like to get this working by tonight 🙂

EDIT: I;
'm only using the 8 pin motherboard connector not the 4 pin, as I've read the manual and it says i dont need it

How to use the ASUS Republic of Gamers USB BIOS flash back

The minimum hardware requirements for USB BIOS flash back is to have a Motherboard with ATX Power Supply on and plugged into the wall. You do not need to have a CPU, RAM, Graphics Card, or Hard Drive connected to the system.
The system does not need to be turned on or pass POST (Power On Self Test)

1. Acquire a USB Thumb Drive
2. Format the USB drive with a FAT32 file system
3. Download the latest BIOS for your motherboard and place the extracted ROM file on the USB drive
4. Be sure to rename your file according to the motherboard model. If you have an Rampage III extreme, rename the file to R3E. If you have a Maximus IV Extreme rename the file to R4E.
5. Place the USB drive into the ROG Connect USB Port
1860

5. Hold the Rog connect button down for 5 seconds and an amber light near the BIOS chips will flash for several seconds and when flashing has stopped the BIOS has been successfully updated..

thanks very much for posting this, but it doenst work, the usb stick normaly has a usb led when its connected in this case it isnt, iv'e got the ROM file i need from the asus website, formated my usb stick to fat32 and placed the bios file then renamed it to
'C5F' ? is this correct?

either way i doubt this would work, also i cant find the rog connect button only a switch with an on and off position as well as
CLR CMOS button on the I/O part a the top near the usb ports

well unless the rog connect button enables the power to the usb of cause

Thank You HiVizMan....I knew there was something I was missing, also I knew you'd remember or would know what I was trying to explain.

Yes it does and the ROG Connect is also only on and off. But just give it a try and HOPEFULLY it works and you get up and running with out having to buy a cheep Athalon II 620 to get it flashed.

There is another way to update your bios I remember reading on one thread here. Replace the bios chip with a chip that has updated bios on it. The arthur of the thread got the chip from Asus support or ...egg. I donot rememer which. It is just a little four prong chip mounted below Republic of Gamers sticker and the battery on the Crosshair V. Pop out the old, pop in the new.

Post a picture of your MB front and back.

Your CH5F maybe beyond salvaging if it's missing transistors & capacitors.

WHy did you buy it in this condition?

hi sorry for not posting back or anything but ive bin busy and mostly sad about this.

its just constant errors that occur with the board, its terrible its consuming me untill i'll eventual either sell it or kill myself.

ok, so last night i had huge success, it was because of my case, it sort of short circited or eatherd the board or what ever, so i left it out the case.

now i got the computer to actual turn on with the fans and led's showing but still no boot.

it was the cpu led, so i automaticly thought it was the bios, i bought a new one for £11.50 😕

installed it right now, now its the bloody ram, dram led is now red.

it really is annoying it keep getting eexcited its going to work but it doesnt, my ram is a cheapish brand not on the reccomended vender list, this is the ram ive got: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004QY0L5A/ref=noref?ie=UTF8&s=computers&psc=1

ive tried all the usual things like pressing the go button, trying all the slots ect... i tried putting the bios chip back to front and it gave me a cpu red led again, WTF

I can see the Memory as a possible problem point but as to the BIOS chip I still think you've got a scrambled BIOS and that's why it keeps coming up red on the CPU. I would see about ether borrowing a friends memory that's on the list or purchasing a set.

hmm, the ram is 1866mhz... but i just put my original bios chip back in and now theres no led's on the top, it was because i had it the wrong way round but i'm still not getting any display

I have found out the hard way that there are two different memory standards, Intel and AMD. AMD memory will work in an Intel system with no problem but the Intel specific memory will not always work in an AMD system. I just finished with 2 friends systems with this same problem. No they were not ROG's but one was Asus and the other was a MSI(YUCK! I still can't stand MSI products). I ended up having to order new memory for them to get their systems working.
