Crosshair V + Bulldozer No boot

hi, so all my computer parts have finally arrived

Crosshair V Formula (pre owned)

AMD Bulldozer FX-8150 (new)

Asus Radeon 6970 (Pre owned)

1 x Kombuterbay 4gb 1866mhz ram (new, only 1 dimm)

80gb SATA 7200rpm HDD

Evolabs 700 watt modula power suply

thats the specs, so the motherboard is pre owned, and it isn't in a good state, there is some kind of spillage on the back, it looks like there are tansistors and capacitors missing but in some pictures they are missing on them as well.

I get the 3 lights on, on the start reset and OC buttons ect. No other leds though.

I press the start button, nothing at all happens, I've reinstalled the cpu 2 times and tried booting with other things.

I'm guessing now it could be an issue with having only 1 dimm slot being used?

Thanks for reading, I would really like to get this working by tonight 🙂

EDIT: I;
'm only using the 8 pin motherboard connector not the 4 pin, as I've read the manual and it says i dont need it

He's right you probably have an older BIOS on that thing and need to flash to the current one, as you only have the 1 Video Card you don't need to use the extra 4 pin plug but extra power to the board never hurts especially if your going to OC the Bulldozer....

One dimm slot is not an issue. For certain kinds of problem fixing we recommend one stick only.

You said you have used other things to boot. I take it that means other CPU's? Or not...

And welcome to the forum mate.

on the forums there was a thread that discussed that very same thing and they used a Flashdrive plugged into the ROG connect to do it but they went in to detail on how to do it...it even stated you didn't need a CPU plugged in to do it just the Flashdrive and Power to the board.

it doesnt seam to be in the manual, ive looked around and found this http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?774-G73jh-vBios-update-tutorial-for-GSOD-matter./page2&high...

ive found the rog_connect switch on the mobo as well and turned that on with a usb in the rog connect socket
but i dont see the led light on my usb drive

well I'm not sure of the right way to do it because I haven't look at that post since the Dozers first came out, but if I remember correctly you have to have a thumb drive formatted to FAT and the BIOS file on it, you stick it into the ROG Connect port and hit the power...it's supposed to flash automatically from even a bare board, no CPU, Memory, no anything just the power lines connected...I thought it was pretty nice that Asus included this feature and skipped over it because I had other problems at the time. So I'm not sure if it's just a Crosshair IV and V or just a Crosshair V thing...somebody on this forum should know....HiVizMan where are you when we need you?
