Crosshair V Bios Failure, The data in the EC or EC flash might be corrupted

Good Afternoon Everyone,

I am currently receiving the following error upon POST in a new PC build

The data in the EC or EC flash might be corrupted.
Please contact ASUS Technical Support for help.
System will Shutdown in 15 sec


All of my Parts were ordered from Newegg. My current setup is

AMD Phenom II X4 980 Blackbox edition @ 3.7GHz " currently running Stock"
Crosshair V motherboard
EVGA GTX 580x2 SLI config
Corsair H100 Water cooler With Arctic Silver 5 Compound
Corsair Force Series 90GB SSD P/n CSSD-F90GBGT-BK
Western Digital 500gig Caviar Blue for storage
Corsair Professional series 1200 watt PSU
Corsair Vengeance gig 1600 DDR3 Duel Channel Kit
Antec 1100 Case all 120mm Fan slots occupied

The PC was build Thursday the 12th of April and i received a good POST that evening with no errors. At this point i simply wanted to ensure i had not received a DOA part but i wasn't yet satisfied with my cable management. When i arived home from work the next day i opened the tower back up to correct my cable management. When i was finished i received the error i mentioned previously

I have tried the following Troubleshooting options with no changes

Cmos reset with jumper in the 2/3 position with no external power
Cmos reset with no CMOS battery present and the jumper in the 2/3 position for 10 sec with no external power
removed the Cmos battery for 5 min with no external power

I have also tried the privious 3 CMOS clearing options with only 1 GPU installed and all 4 Ram chips cycled in 1 at a time in the slot closest to the CPU. At this point i am out of ideas and would greatly appreciate any input someone may have.

Hello to you, your efforts to manage the cables is your clue.

Please try to disconnect any cabling that you may have connected for a front panel unit or a rear port assembly to a header on your board.

I suspect once you have disconnected all or any front panel headers your problem will go away.

Thank you very much for your quick response. I am currently at work till 3:30 pm EST time and will try to unplug the headers when i get home. Ill kick myself if i have a header plugged in wrong and that's the only issue. I neglected to mention that i am unable to assess the BIOS at all as well. The keyboard is detected but i am unable to enter the BIOS. I have used a PS2 and USB keyboard. Would this also be a symptom of the malfunctioning header as well?

Well its official i deserve the PC builders dunce cap. In the low light of my poor excuse of a kitchen/work area i managed to plug my USB header into a chassis fan connector with a similar pin pattern. The rig is running very well with an BIOS update to 1301. Thank you again for your help HiVisMan

we have all done one thing that makes us look stupid and makes up wonder what the hell we were thinking lol I once forgot to put the compound on the cpu and wondered why my CPU was running hot Ill never do that again lol

Hello. I have a motherbord Asus Crosshair V formula. I did all that you say but i have a problem .. I can't enter the bios .. American Megatrends icon and after 15 seconds my system shtdown. Help me please. Thanks

the problem is the TPU chip, maybe broken or EEPROM Firmware corrupted.  to recover the Firmware of EEPROM or reprogramming new firmware is too much difficult for a non experienced user, and you need a EEPROM programmer.
