Crosshair 2 Formula HANGS AT BOOT with NEW GTX 680!!!

Hi Everyone, I wonder if you can help.

I have a system here that is giving me issues. For the past couple of years it has been running BFG 8800GTX's in TRI SLI faultlessly! Yesterday I got a new EVGA GTX 680. When I try to instal the 680 the system will not boot. I have a 1000W Antec PSU that has had no trouble with three 8800's and as far as I can see the 680 is powered correctly. The system will hang at the ROG splash screen, and 'PASSWORD' is displayed on the LCD poster. I have never set any password for this system. Any ideas guys??

The card works perfectly in my other system??

Hi Myk, thanks for your input.
Yeah tried that, but the system wont post, even when set through msconfig, to boot into safe mode with 680 in the primary pcie slot. It stops at the same point as before, just before it does the memory check. This leads me to think that there must be some difference with the way the board handles the pcie connections between the primary and middle slots and not a driver issue. Everything works perfect only utilizing the middle slot. I installed all three gtx 8800's to check the slots again and the system boots fine. Cards are good, slots are good. Whats the difference between the middle and primary slots?????? Why doesn't this board like the primary slot? Crazy.

Not to Crazy considering you have a Video Card that's a PCI-E 3.0 Slot and your Motherboard is a PCI-E 1.0/1.1 there are a lot of Differences between the versions and not all Cards even when they list it as Backwards Compatible are fully Backwards Compatible with Version 1.0/1.1 so I would think your having Issues with compatibility. I know you want a New Series Video Card but you may be better using a 580 or even a 480 due to both of them are PCI-E 2.0 with FULL Backwards Compatibility to Version 1.0/1.1....Hope this helps in Clearing up the Problems and you can verify it by contacting the Manufacturer.

i have that board and it has a pci-e 2.0

that board has a onboard video chip that can do hybrid sli that probably is conflicting with the 680.

I know this thread is old, but has anyone found out the issue. I have the same problem. First or third pci express slot x16 2.0 will not work. Only middle slot will @ x8. I also verified that the slots are working using GTX 275's... works great. Any thoughts???
