ATI crossfire = BUGGY, doesn't matter who says what.
nVidia SLI = Less buggy.
x16 x16 x8, theoretically possible, but my mony is on controllers pipeline limitations.
1100T is as fast as it gets here, OC to 3.8 or 4.0 and bottleneck will be at ram...

x16 x8 x8 i supported for three cards, or x16 x16 for two. x16 x16 x8 is not supported.

The 990FX has 42 pcie lanes. If x16 x16 x8 mode was to be supported, only two pcie lanes would be left for use on the other pcie slot and motherboard components ( lan, asmedia usb controller, asmedia sata controler, sound.. ). Its a chipset limitation.

there is only one way to find out my man. That is to run it up and see. intel burn test it. If it doesn't the Corsair H-80 will.

Being ingnorant and ingnored one post at a time.

I get to 4.0 with H50, lowest grade cooler (hey for $40 on sale cant complain) with temps maybe slightly warmer than human body,
with fans spinning at 800 RPM which is pretty low.
I have SLI EVGA 560Ti, but as of now I use PCI-E Wifi card, so portion of intake fan on top card is a bit abstructed.
anyway, let us know how your OC goes, these chips so easy to overclock.
