CPU Temps / Cores Temps question

Hey guys,

So I've been monitoring my system for a bit since I got my new setup finally stable.

However I have a few questions.

For the CPU, what is more important? Total CPU temps or Core temps? I have an FX 8120.

This is what it shows for me idle right now:

3631

I have an Corsair H80 Liquid Cooling and it's on the lowest setting since I like to keep things quiet. Also note I'm using SLI to system temps will be higher than normal.

Also note that under LOAD the highest I've seen the CPU go was 58 degrees and the cores go to 44 degrees all in Celsius. I know I can lower temps further by adding more fans on the case and bumping up the fans on the CPU but for now it's alright.

Another question is, is there any way to see my North / South bridge temps without being in the BIOS?

Thanks!

You can monitor your NB and SB temps in your bios?
If so, you're one of the lucky few who can, most of use don't have it available.
The CPU temp is taken from a thermal sensor within the the CPU mobo socket.
The individual core temp readings are taken from sensors embedded within the CPU die.
So under load, the CPU core temps are the readings that need to be monitored.

See if ASUS PC Probe II or AIDA64 picks up your NB & SB temps.

You could also monitor them with Speedfan, that is what I use to monitor the NB and SB along with all other temps and fan speeds...

So always I mainly want to pay attention to the core temps and not the CPU temp right?

And yeah I will see if I can get any other programs to read my NB / SB temps.

Yes, especially under heavy CPU load.

Thanks a lot.

Just a question though, what's the point of even reading the CPU temp where the heatsink touches the CPU if what really matters are core temps?

Seems like it's just to give you an idea of how much heat your cooling setup has to dissipate?

You're good, yes and to give you an idea what the temps are around the CPU socket.

When are we going to hear a fix on the NB and SB temp fix. Im over this Im ready to go back to the Crosshair 2 and choke up using ddr3.

lol you are so disgusted that you can't read those temps that you will go back 3 generations of Crosshair and use a slower computer?

The Core Temperature is the most important one to watch.
