CPU fan speed is stuck at 480RPM with Maximus VII Gene

Hi,

Yesterday I got my M7G board. I'm having a problem with the CPU fan speed. It doesn't ramp up past 480RPM.

The CPU cooler is Silverstone Heligon HE01. It has a big 140mm fan with PWM connection. The fan is plugged into the main CPU fan header. I didn't try the optional one.

At first BIOS couldn't detect it at all. 0 RPM. Then I qdisconnected and reconnected. Then it could be detected but the fan speed is very low compared to the 2000RPM which it is support to operate at.

I ran Q-Fan control and the results show that the fan operates at the same speed - 480RPM - regardless of the PWM signal. I had this cooler in my Maximus VI Hero up to now and I just set it to Standard and it worked perfectly.

Why doesn't it work in the new board?

I'm using the latest 1002 BIOS.

I also tried AISuite and it also came up with the same results.

What should I do?

I think because the fan is running lower than 600 rpm which is the default it may be a good idea to set the lower limit to 400rpm and see how that goes.

Nice blog by the way. 🙂

It was the fan. Something killed it. I just cannot figure out what caused it. It was working just great on the M6H. Mobo switch and the fan's stuck at 500RPM.

Anusha, if you dont get a reply for a few hours its usually due to people being on a different timezone to you. I noticed there was a thread here on Sunday night from you that was on OCN two hours later. It's not because people are ignoring you - you just have to wait til people are online and they get to you. 🙂

My bad. I was really feeling bad about what happened.
