CPU and case fans mysteriously stopping on the ASUS Prime X470-Pro

I've been having an odd issue involving my case and CPU fans completely stopping for no reason for around 2-3 weeks now, forcing me to reboot to fix the issue. I've not found a cause for this, it seems completely random. Sometimes it spares me for a few days, sometimes it happens multiple times per day. On two occasions instead of stopping, the fans got stuck at around 300 RPM and 600RPM, regardless of load.

I did some searching to see if anyone else was experiencing something like this and found that there's been a few others experiencing the same issue on different ASUS boards -

There's at least two notable posts explaining why this might be happening -

"The Super IO chip does not like multiple apps accessing it. This can cause PWM issues. For example if I have HWINFO monitoring a stress test and then open CPU-Z it can cause an issue with Super IO chip. The "corruption" may not exhibit PWM issue for x period for that post but it will occur in my testing. If I repost after multiple apps have accessed Super IO chip there will be on issue. Programs like AIDA64, CPU-Z, can still be accessing Super IO chip in background even when not on relevant screen of app."

Each time it's happened, the only monitoring software I've had running was HWinfo64. I unfortunately can't do without it since I rely on it alerting me when the CPU temps skyrocket due to the fans stopping. I'm worried that if I don't have it open at all times, the fans might still stop due to some other reason and I won't be aware of it, causing the poor thing to run at 95-100C for hours on end.

Motherboard: ASUS Prime X470-Pro
CPU: R5 2600X
CPU Cooler: Be Quiet! Dark Rock 4
Case fans: 3x Be Quiet! Pure Wings 2 120MM DC fans - these were working fine for 3-4 years in my old build, never had a problem
UEFI version: Updated to 4011
OS: W10 Home

So.. What do I do? Can this be fixed in a future BIOS update?

I'd very much appreciate any thoughts or advice on what I could try. I'd really be quite saddened if I had to deal with this issue for the next 5-6 years.

Fans should have a lower limit. Once you get below that they might not be getting enough power to spin I'm thinking. 300 rpm is quite low.

Yup, I've got lower limits set. 50% for the CPU, 40% for the case fans. This usually has them hovering around 600-700 RPM when idle. I haven't the slightest idea why they got stuck at around 300 RPM that one time. They weren't responsive to CPU load either, even though they should've ramped up to around 1,300 RPM under load.

I had the same issue yesterday and scared by my cpu running on I-dont-know-how-long for 95-100°C I searched around the web a bit. Thats how I found this thread and some others also.

This thread seems to confirm that is has nothing to do with the PSU or the fan's itself. Its as VIKTORIAH was suspecting most definitely a bug with the ITE IT8665E and how it reacts to getting polled a lot by software like hwinfo or aida. A variety of ASUS motherboards seem to have this issue, which makes it even harder to understand why it isnt fixed yet.
I am also somewhat baffled by why the board doesnt seem to have any protection shutdown mechanism nor any temp warning / fan not running warning settings.

Motherboard: ASUS Prime X470-Pro
CPU: R5 2600X
CPU Cooler: Thermalright True Spirit 120 Direct with a Noctua NF-P12 redux-1300 PWM
Case fans: 2x Thermalright 140MM PWM fans - I also used my fans in my old setup for some years now without any issue
UEFI version: Updated to 4011
OS: W10 Pro
The cpu isnt overclocked besides the asus bios things that it came with out of the box (XFR etc) and is undervolted by -0.075V.

When I had the issue yesterday the case fans stopped working and the cpu fan seemed to be locked at 10% RPM. When I finally noticed the error, my case was burning hot, the cpu ran like described on 98°+ Celsius and the cores already throttled down to 3,4 GHZ.

I have this issue as well on the same motherboard. Did you manage to resolve this?

The same problem.
Night render in 3dsmax begin successful. Processor load 100%, temperature 67 C, fans load ~90%
After ~ an hour, the fans for some reason go into minimum mode, the processor overheats and the computer goes into reboot.
