CPU 4930k into Rampage IV Black Edition

when i try to lock the cpu, i hear like a buzzing or more like crunching sound ( like against the pin but not sure) with lots of force required (the first lock). Is it supposed to be? Im scared but I went ahead and pulled both hooks and locked it. The second hook made a squeaky sound as I was trying to lock it. I'm worried... As you all know, it's a pricey motherboard.....

Dude, its supposed to take a lil force to lock down your CPU, dont trip finish your build and good chance all is good.

Yeah I know about the force, but I don't know about this cracking sound it makes...

only way to tell is to fire it up...shouldn't take but a few minutes to build it on your box and test it...

I mean not too sound like a jerk but if your not 100% confident in building then you shouldn't have picked thousands in dollars of parts to destroy. If your worried take it too a shop and have them complete the whole build since money isnt an issue to ensure it all runs and nothing gets fried or put in wrong. I can tell you the lettering on the cpu should be upside down when going in and you shouldnt hear crunching, make sire you didnt destroy any pinns too first, 1 bad pin cant mess things up.

The chip can only fit in one way. The tabs on the top and bottom of the chip socket are not the same distance apart. I sure would not want to hear crunching when I locked both arms down on the side of the chip.

And they sure do take some force to close them up. 🙂

There is always a slight crispy crunch sound fitting the CPU as the pins are "crushed" into place that is entirely normal. If you are following the instructions in the manual (make sure you are) then you can not go wrong.

It does take some force to close the bars at the side...it should to hold the CPU firmly in place...

Learning and asking questions is half the fun of building...we all start somewhere...don't be afraid to ask and have fun with the build:)

Have the same - with 4960x but when i put it first time - all was okey - but second time when i put it on the cpu slot - and wanna lock it - i hear the crunch sound crackling or somthing else - and i was werry scared about the pins in the socket.. and then when i use a CPU - Z - program show me that's is the memory runs in tripple channel - not quad - and i thinking that's i destroy the cpu pins - when installing the cpu(( but i put out the memory module clean it with 96& vodka - and all work's fine - but i little woried about it - some one can explain that ?? on z 87 platform it never happened.

The noise is there to some degree on all sockets if you listen for it. The pins contact the CPU in one position and slide along the contact a short way as the CPU is compressed onto them...the pins are shaped and bent to act in a spring-like way. I suppose it depends on the friction of the two surfaces (pin and CPU contact) how much noise is made....but this will always be present.

Some bad paint drawings to illustrate 😉

Will hope that's is not an issue of the mobo...

On z87 socket it never happened as i say'd...

And it's sound's like a mobo's tekstolite ckracling not the pins in the socket.. but maybe i am wrong - some body can do that, and prove that's is not a mobo materials..?
