Morning Everyone,
My R4E board crapped out about a month ago. I purchased the R4BE to replaced it. I'm running into a problem where you boot for the first time and it hangs at Debug code AF. If you hit restart it's able to boot no problem. I started to read the manual and notice that my ram isn't on the vendor list. Do you all think my ram could be a possible reason, or something else is a problem? Any help is greatly appreciated.

the DRAM was lit on the first bootup, but when i hit reset it went away. I used the Default bios that came with the computer. Not sure which version.

Please do the following when you have a chance and report back your results.

1. Clear your CMOS.
2. Update to the latest non beta BIOS by putting the BIOS on a clean FAT32 USB pendrive and updating it through the EZ Flash utility in your BIOS.
3. Once the BIOS flash is done, power up your system.
4. Go into the BIOS and press F5 to load the optimized defaults.
5. Save and shutdown your system.

When you do a cold boot again, see if it's still stucked on the AF QCODE making you hit Restart to boot up properly.

I don't know if this helps. But have you tried running older BIOS than you currently have? I have the same RAMs and CPU as you do but I have the R4E, not the R4EBE. I can run the RAMs at 2400GHz @ 9-11-11-28 with BIOS Version 4206, but anything above that my system would crash. Even at stock speeds and timings (2133MHz @ 9-11-10-27) my system would crash with anything above BIOS 4206. So i'm stuck at 4206.

So might as well give it a shot and try running your R4EBE at older BIOS.

I apologize if I'm wrong, I'm just speaking from personal experience.

Yes, later BIOS on the RIVE were more IB-E oriented and some RAM kits and types did not do so well. In fact the timings, second and third, even setting XMP started being different. Might be the case here.I

f you happen to have first second and third timings written down from your RIVE days, for XMP (maybe fantasy could supply them?) try keying those in on the RIVBE...

Also try setting CPU current capability a bit higher in Digit+ settings...see if that helps...Check what vccsa and vtt the board is setting and setting tweak mode 2 in RAM timing section...

Update: Bios 0701 is installed, but i'm still having the AF code during the first boot. I also hit f5 for optimized setting. I noticed that i have 16gb, but only 12gb is seen in the OS. I did purchase new Ram, but it will take a week to get here. I believed i cleared the cmos, but anyone can point me to instructions for doing so?

Clear CMOS is simply pressing the button on the board I/O panel or removing all power from the board including taking the battery out for a while.

However, most often missing RAM is from a bad MB slot...have you tested a known good stick in each slot? or from the CPU not making contact in the socket properly, which can be from bad contact...uneven cooler pressure...bent pin. I would reseat the CPU making sure there are no bent pins in the socket and making sure when you replace cooler you do so with even pressure all the way down until it is seated.

Always good to check the seating of the RAM too...these slots are famous for being able to have the latch end closed but the RAM not seated properly....have to hear a good click at each end...non latch end first.

Update: Bought new ram (CMD16GX3M2A2133C9) they both are working. However, i'm still running into the issue of no video, DRAM_LED lit, and it stops at AF QCODe. I still have to hit reset in order for it to post. I also bought a 900d(my 800d is beat up, and i knew that wasnt going to fix anything). Something I noticed is that if I turn on the power for the first time, and press the MEMOK button it will post. I also reseated the CPU as well. Any other suggestions??
