Computer will not shut down, any ideas?

No matter if I try suspend, hibernation or a complete shut down, the computer will stay off for about three seconds and then turn on again. The only thing that works is to hold the button until it shuts down.

I have tried with disconnecting everything external like network, keyboard and mouse. Any ideas what I should look into?

Hi Bateman 🙂

Look into the "wake on lan" settings (i think that's what they are called...where your computer can wake when the network adapter receives anything over the net....which they always do..

But what computer would help 😮

IF a RIVE look in BIOS at APM settings in Advanced tab check the "power on by" things are disabled...that kind of thing..

Do you have the latest IRST installed?

Thanks guys, sorry I have a RIVE.

I have the latest IRST drivers installed.

I have turned off every "wake on" settings, both in BIOS and in the ethernet card settings.

Tried 4310 and 0024.

Please remove the IRST application and if you need that particular application install a older version.

I have uninstalled the IRST application and tried different versions of the driver, but still same problem.

Also tried disabling Asmedia SATA controller in BIOS.

What power settings do you have enabled or disabled (or auto) in bios?

100 certain way of fixing this but you are not going to like it. Assuming that it is not a PSU issue of course.

Reinstall OS.

Thanks for your help,

Turned out to be a problem with a the setting "Turn on fast startup (recommended)" which is somewhat hidden under Power Options -> Choose what the power buttons do.

That setting combined with the application Start8 (Start menu) made the computer wake again when it had shut down or gone to sleep.
