Cannot get Realtek audio to work

Hi all,

I just built my Maximus VI Impact rig today and cannot seem to get the onboard sound card installed / recognized.

I'm using the Asus provided Realtek sound drivers, though every time I want to open up volume control, it acts as if there is totally no sound card and then tries to troubleshoot; finding nothing. Device Manager also shows no Realtek audio devide.

As a workaround I'm using an external sound card attached to the optical out; this works flawlessly. Its a shame I cannot put the onboard audio of such a high end motherboard to use.

Anyone having / had similar issues?

Did you make any changes in the BIOS at all? If yes please reset the bios and see if that sorts your on-board sound out.

I did as you suggested, but it didn't help 😞

Right thank you.

Now in your OS could you click on the speaker icon bottom right hand side and see what your system has selected as the playback device, it may be that you need to enable the onboard device. (I hope it will be that easy)

Thanks for your suggestion.

I tried this initially, believing the solution would indeed be that simple 🙂

The Realtek audio device does not show up there (or anywhere) however 😞

I've reinstalled Windows 8.1 multiple times, used a multitude of Realtek drivers, to no avail.

Its as if it does not see the sound card at all...

OK and if you go into your bios and check your onboard sound options I assume that the box is ticked for enabled.

I am sad to say it seems you have a defective motherboard onboard sound. RMA the board and get one that works as it should.

Yes, onboard audio is enabled in the BIOS.

Thanks anyway for all your help. I was afraid I would have to RMA this board.

Although I don't have the same board as you, I have ASMedia in System Configurations and after a BIOS update it defaulted to DISABLE.
I too could not get my realtek drivers to work and the system would not recognize the drivers until I switched the ASMedia controls to ENABLE.
Just a thought, but have you checked this setting in the BIOS.
