Can't make Offset VCore and CPU Strap coexist - Anyone who got it?

Got 4.6G OC out of my i7-4960X with BCLK Freq=125 @ Vcore=1.25V (fixed value) easy.

However, when I try to switch over to OFFSET mode providing the same (even higher) VCore, the R4E won't post thru (hangs on 9A or says the OC failed). Going back to fixed VCore and everything is Ok. Setting BCLK Freq=100 and multiplier to 46, the R4E is posting again just fine. BUT Offset & CPU strap won't work together (on my rig).

Is CPU strapping and Offset mode mutually exclusive? (sorry if I'm asking silly questions again.)
Am I missing something here, or has anybody made such a configuration work?

Right. I accidentally found this on the General forum:
http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?22378-Offset-and-125-Strap-on-RIVE

It seems that this kind of stuff is very hard to configure and ... probably pointless.

Is this still valid for Ivy-Bridge-E CPUs?

No silly questions on ROG...

Strap 125 you lose Speedstep which is the main reason for wanting an offset voltage ....but losing offset per se? I'm not sure that is necessarily the case. But some people say they cant do it and others that they need a much bigger offset...to run the same clock...

Thx mate. Much appreciated!

WillyK what did you do at the end of the day? And may I ask why you want the strap?

I abandoned the CPU strap idea as soon as I understood it won't work (well) in offset mode (which I'm using as a standard on all my systems).

I was tempted to try CPU strap (125) to see if it's easier to get say 4.7G stable without pushing the rig too much. The results were promising, and surprisingly enough the performance got "snappier" (e.g. applications starting visibly faster) compared to the same OC @ BCLK=100 (it's doing the jobs as fast but it seems a little "sluggish" on user interaction). I think I've read about similar experiences in some other post on the forum here. I'm not sure why that is (unless I'm imagining things) and I've never used CPU strapping before too.

I hope that answers your question 😉
