Boot Device LED red, no POST.

I have a new CHV with a Phenom 2, a stick of RAM, a 6950, and an Antec 1000 watt PSU.

When I power on, the board goes through a sequence of red lights which ends with the Boot device LED staying red and no POST. This happens whether I connect my SATA drives or not.

After a recent move, my Crosshair 3 with identical components was failing to POST, so I thought I'd killed it, and replaced it with the CHV.

Any ideas?

Make sure you have no USB drives plugged in, and make sure you have your USB keyboard / Mouse in USB 2.0 ports (Someone kindly pointed out that the very top ports at the back are infact USB 3.0

I've got nothing plugged in apart from the stuff I mentioned. Just trying to POST, my display is staying in power saving mode.

Maybe its not the board if the same components were in the CH3

Have you tried new RAM ? Are you sure your CPU / PSU is OK ?

New SATA cables ?

I'm pretty sure its not the board. I'm just asking what it means when the red 'Boot Device' light is on.

Does it mean I have to have a boot device to POST? I've had the boot SATA drive from my old setup plugged in but it makes no difference.

The LEDS for CPU and RAM light up and go out, does that mean those components are definitely OK? I'm not sure if anything is OK to be honest, anything might have been damaged in the move. Anyway.. I'm glad to have the CHV and looking forward to geting Bulldozer soon.

None of the LEDs are lit up on my board right now (Booted)

Boot Device was staying lit up on mine when I had problems with the boot order in the BIOS - either not having the correct disk set to 1st boot device or leaving a USB drive plugged in

It should still POST without any drives connected and just say "Insert boot device and press any key"

Have you tried pressing the MemOK! red button on the board ? It sets up the RAM speeds to help troubleshoot booting - also try pressing the Clear CMOS button on the IO plate at the back

I tried that on this and on the CH3.

Are these the symptoms of CPU death? Too bad I don't have another processor lying around. I've swapped the RAM and have tried both graphics cards so I'm thinking they have been eliminated as the problem.

My Corsair case has no speaker so I can't use beeps to diagnose whats happened, thats why I'm relying on the CHV's lights.

i have the same problem.Look if the voltages on monitor are corrrect. In my monitor appears a crazy 24.48volt-5.64volt and in vga 8.8volt.For the moment my opinion is that the problem must be for 90% in motherboard.Check on mobo the voltages 12v-5v-3.3v and+12v are correct?.The alfanurering indicate A2?.

Please correct me but are you trying to post without a keyboard or any mouse?

I encountered this same problem upon waking up this morning. USB keyboard and mouse get power, but its not turning the monitor on and the boot device LED is on. I do get one beep though. I didn't have much time to fiddle with it before having to leave for work, but I will when I get home. Its sticking on q code 99.
