Hiya, so i have asus z170 pro gaming board, been using it since like 2016 or so. i had 8+8gb G.skill 3400mhz RAM, it never worked in 3400mhz to begin with, i tried XMP and manual, but i only got it to 3333mhz. I left it alone as this is small difference and i really don't care.
i recently bought crucial pro 3200mhz 16+16gb RAM to mix with current one, online sources said it's possible to mix and run them both @ 3200mhz. i plugged new RAM in and it POSTs and boots, but defaulted to 2133mhz. i tried XMP and manual, but no go. it just wont POST. i didn't try all possible settings, i tried down to like 2800mhz with 1.3v, even though crucial RAM says 1.2v.
I thought that maybe it would be good to update BIOS since it was 2016 version and somewhere i saw something about 2003. I downloaded latest available BIOS from asus website and flashed firmware. it was some 2018 version as it seems latest they provide.
after that, it fails to POST at all. issue is that this dumb update screwd it all up. It won't POST with crucial RAM at all, i tried one stick, 2 sticks, all 4 mixed with g.skill, NOTHING. it still boots with g.skill, but crucial doesn't work at all.
WHAT IS THIS NONSENSE UPDATE? how do they update and claim "improved memory compatibility" and it won't even POST with crucial RAM? and now this dumb nonsense won't let me downgrade either, so now i'm stuck with 32gb BRAND NEW RAM that i can't even use!
WHO made this update? better question, HOW DO I FIX THIS PLEASE? I'm really angry over this nonsense, what is this? update and get broken BIOS!
To add salt to this wound, now my g.skill won't even run at 3333mhz nor 3200mhz, best i got is 3000mhz. WHO IN ASUS IS DESIGNING THAT NONSENSE GARBAGE? I had a feeling that update will downgrade my system and break things and i was right!
furthermore it enabled secure idiotic boot and screwed with my BCD aswell, since i use encryption, it failed to boot aswell. I had to screw with settings to get it to boot again from my encrypted drive.
this level of incompetence is just beyond my understanding, how do they claim that it's "update" if all it does is goes back in time and REMOVES compatibility?
Can someone please tell me how to fix? It won't let me update (downgrade) back to working BIOS because asus is total garbage! Do i have to go with some USB BIOS programmer and remove the BIOS chip? i don't have that device and i would rather just put old BIOS firmware on it, but that stupid system won't let me, is there any other way? This is really making me mad, how can they make such hot garbage?
