I am having troubles with my build:

Motherboard is Asus Crosshair V Formula
CPU AMD 8120 8 core proscessor
16 GB DDR3 Ram
BIOS version 1302
Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit

here's the problem:

Once i shut the computer down or it goes in to sleep mode i get the black screen with the cursor when i wake it up or turn it back on. then i have to do a hard power down, by holding the power button on the tower and restart in windows start up recovery mode and then it does a restore and then everything works fine until the next time i turn it off or it goes to sleep. any info would be amazing, i do have the cd that came with the MOBO, not sure if anything there will fix it, or if i have to back up the important stuff and start from scratch, thanks in advance for the help!

Hi joerau, welcome to the forum!
Do we speak about Crosshair V Formula (w/o Z) or Formula Z? My following remarks apply to Formula Z.
Your problem reminds me of a similar issue with Crosshair Formula Z, which was discussed here at some length last autumn and winter. Upon S3 resume, the PC would show a black screen with no other resolution but a hard reset. This anomaly was introduced by BIOS 1602. Your BIOS, however, is earlier and should be immune to it.
BTW, the latest BIOS 2101, is free from the problem, at least in my case. I would suggest that you flash to BIOS 2101 to see if this works for you.

Please clarify which is your MB, as there are different methods for flashing Bios.

As you have Bios 1302, I assume you are Formula Z. If so go here: http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/CROSSHAIR_V_FORMULAZ/HelpDesk_download/

Download latest Bios file (2101) to an empty USB stick, formatted to FAT32.

Also at the same time, download the renaming tool from Bios Utilities, to the same USB stick.

Activate the renamer and it will convert the Bios file to ***.CAP. extension. Check it has done its job.

Power down your system so that only the green light on your MB is lit up.

Insert the USB stick into the ROG Connect port on your IO panel.

Press the Bios Flash button for 3 secs till it starts flashing ( Its the button with 2 little race tracks) and let it do its job.

When it stops flashing you are done and can reboot into Bios and set to defaults.

This is the safest method, Do not cut power to your system during Bios flash.

Should you have CHV and not Z then come back for different instructions.
