Bios Flashing question, Rampage 4 Gene

Hi,
I have Rampage 4 Gene Motherboard,
I want to install i7-4820k into it,
I have read that I will need to update the BIOS to use this CPU,
I dont have another CPU,
Supposedly i can update the BIOS with the BIOS Flash back utility,
I have located the white sticker and it has the digit 1005 which i presume is the current BIOS revision flashed onto it.
Now this is where I am confused as the BIOS flashback webpage mentions that I might need to update from the .rom to .cap with some sort of convertor?
I am also presuming that I wont be able to boot if it isnt updated to the 4310 revision.
Can i still update the BIOS with the flash back method ?
If i can, do i simply put the File onto a fat 32 flash stick, rename it correctly then follow the instructions,
Else any ideas what i can do?

Sorry if it has been already answered and i didnt find it.

Welcome to the ROG forums, Slooxied.

I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news but you will not abe able to run the ROM to CAP converter. To complete the process you'd need a SB-E CPU. Looks like you'll have to take the motherboard back to the shop you bought it at and have them update the BIOS for you. It's either that or borrow a SB-E CPU from a friend. There is no other way I'm afraid.

Hi Thanks for the welcome,

Yes it seems that your correct.
I phoned my local asus center and will be travelling there for them to update the bios for me,
Hmm anyways thank you for the reply, much appreciated.

Hi,
Well i took it to the ASUS support in my area and they "supposedly" updated my bios.
I re-installed all my parts and tried to boot, now the computer just turns on for a split second, fans start, leds etc, then powers off.
The red-debug led lights up for the CPU. So obviously the cpu is still the problem somehow.
Ive refitted it, tested another PSU and taken the motherboard out of box to check for shorts.
All the same, still get the red-debug light for cpu.

Interestingly i figured that maybe if i just clear the cmos and try reflash through the BIOS flashback method hopefully something might happen, the funny thing is it wont accept any of the .CAP files for my bios, it does however accept any of the .ROM files, leading me to beleive that the ASUS tech guy didn't in fact update my bios correctly.

My concern and question lies in the fact that it turns on for a split second , then turns off and repeats this "cycle" until i unplug.
Does any1 have any experience with incompatible CPU's and trying to boot? is this to be expected? or possibly is something else wrong?

I ran across a forum about another guy with the same problem, he ended up just buying a BIOS from the store with the correct BIOS installed and that worked for him. He didn't however mention if it did the on off cycle but did mention that the red LED for cpu was on and that it didnt post or show any error messages, Kinda like mine.

Just to confirm i am trying to install the i7 4820k on the Rampage iV GENE board, i have G.skill 1866mhz memory and a 850 VANTEC voltra PSU. Its all new parts.

Any1 got any advice?

Seems as if I am having the same problem as you have... same problem with same processor and same main... 😕 thought my main was defective...

We have no way of knowing if he did the flash or if he flashed it incorrectly. Can you borrow a SB-E CPU from a friend to flash it yourself?

Replied in your thread by the way. 😛

Unless your motherboard has been converted to the new CAP bioses you will need to take the board into a vendor with a Three series CPU and as them to do the flash for you.

OR

Look on ebay and get a pre flashed BIOS chip $15
