BIOS bootloop

OK I have a Asus Maximus VI Impact motherboard and its in a bios bootloop. It was working fine all this time but there seems to be a bent pin and due it most likely giving me a post error 55 if I try to make my cooler. This would mean one ram slot would be out of action unless the screws are slightly loose.

So I tried to straighten the pin and looks better than it did, tightened the cooler more than what I did it last, no post error but it keeps going in bios loop. I reseted the BIOS with the button at the back, removed the battery, flashed latest BIOS several times, unseated cooler, CPU, tried 1 ram slot but nothing helped.

Suggestions are welcome

Hey benparker

What happened, I thought you had it working. A bent socket pin is not good but can be fixed with a toothpick, a good eye and a steady hand.

You might want to inpsect the cpu socket again with a magnifying glass in good light just to make sure they are all evenly spaced and in order. It sounds to me like there might be one or two a little off.

Look close and carefully.

Yea it was but if I tightened the cooler which gave it better cooling and not fluctuating it would post 55 and can use 1 ram slot. Noticed there was a bent pin so tried to straighten it which landed me in a bootloop. Would it still work with 1 pin missing? And I take it its not covered under RMA?

You were right, I straightened 2 more other pins, nothing major, and one pin had the tip or ball on top snapped off but tried to raise it a little further. So still boot loop and I thought I'll plug in a bootable win 7 USB and it started the setup process and now I'm on win 10, hopefully nothing else goes wrong.

Strangely though when I tested it out of the case it was about 32-33 idle no fluctuating, max temp 35. So I tightened the cooler a little more and increased to 37-38 and there are fluctuations where max temp goes 40+ when doing nothing at all. Just gonna leave it for now, too many hours wasted on different problems but a learning curve at the end of the day.

Might poke around in the future again lol

All right good job benparker

If it's working for you try not to fool with the cpu socket anymore, you can remount the cooler if you think you can get temps lower but all in all that looks pretty good to me.
