Best Way To Flash With Non 3xxx Series BIOS (0902 or 1004) ?

Hi,

There is a sticky guide on the forum about using EZ Flash 2 to flash the 3xxx series BIOS versions into a Maximus IV Extreme-Z board but what about earlier versions such as 0902 and 1004?

Can these be flashed by pressing the ROG connect button on the rear panel with a fat32 formatted USB stick containing the BIOS in the white USB slot? Or, can BUPDATER be used on a bootable USB stick, or should it still be the EZ Flash 2 option from within the BIOS?

The board I propose to flash currently contains BIOS version 0210, so 0902 or 1004 are updates to a more recent version, ie, it is not a downgrade to earlier version.

Hi there,the normal way to "upgrade the bios" is by using EZ Flash 2 in the bios,just remember to press F5 to set optomised defaults,reboot then flash the bios,F5 and reboot again.The ROG Connect way is for flashing back the bios,as this cant be done through EZ Flash 2.Hope this helps.

1004 bios is your best option.

Interesting, I was going to flash with 0902 rather than 1004 as 1004 is supposed to have an issue that I cannot recall right now. I am sure that I read somewhere about 1004 either reporting a debug code or some voltage quirk if "Auto" is not selected for the tuning mode, ie, if XMP or Manual were selected there was some vCore issue. I would need to search through the threads again but it's somewhere in this forum.

I know people say it is not recomended to flash via OS but with non 3xx bios I have to say that I have done so many times by downloading bios from Asus website and then flashing using AI Suite and I have never once had a single issue with doing so.

As far as I am aware the voltage issue is only present with the 3xx bios versions so not sure if its an issue with 1004.

This is for the 3 series,i think he was asking about non 3 series flashing,???

Please follow that guide for all BIOS flashing regardless of what BIOS is used. Flashing in OS is not recommended.

The process is exactly the same, all that will be different is the BIOS that is being sued for the flash 🙂

All done and tested working OK, I flashed a modified version of 0902 into the BIOS 1 chip and it all went OK.
