Before I buy, anything I need to know about my memory and the 4970K heat issue?

Good 'eve all,

So I've not built in almost 7 years, but it's time. I've pretty much settled on this board, a 4970K processor, and Corsair Vengeance Pro Series 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 1866MHz 9-10-9-27 memory.

I chose this memory because it's on the ASUS approved vendor list, but of course the only review on Amazon that mentioned Hero 7 says it doesn't work on it (I'm assuming user error).

What I don't get though is what I need to do with XMP if anything? I'm not familiar with it.

1) Can I just plug these sticks in and go?

2) Not until I visited these forums did I learn about the higher voltage heating issue from the 4970K. Can I just manually set lower voltage (I.e. 1.5V or whatever) to fix that?

Note: I will NOT be OCing but yes, I still want the K model because it's faster.

YES you can. I was able to manually set my voltage to 1.12 and it ran just fine. Although, I only had problems using the latest version of Prime95 on stock settings. There is something Prime95 and Haswell, that makes the voltage go crazy. I use an older version of Prime95(26.7 I think) and it does not make the temps go into the 100's..I also have a full watercooling setup. I run 100% stock settings and I don't have any issues with normal stuff or gaming.

You can plug and go but enabling XMP will automatically set the ram speeds for you. The fitting will depend on which cpu cooler and which ram slots you use. If you're not overclocking don't worry about voltages or heat, leave them alone.
