Audio on Rampage IV is not working

Hi there:

My board is nearly one year old and has been working flawlessly, couldn't be happier. Two days ago I bought a second GPU, a 7970 Platinum Matrix, installed in Crossfire, and everything worked perfectly.

Today after a couple of boot ups while doing some configuration on my PC, all of a sudden the sound on the MB has stopped working.

The Audio devices program keeps telling me the Speakers are not plugged in, even though they are. I do see the Realtek Digital Output is working, because it's not faded on the list, while the Speakers are there but faded.

So, is my analog audio jack busted? Must I buy some new speakers that can only use a digital connection? Is there anything I can do to resolve the issue, or should I RMA this board? Or maybe buy a new set of speakers that use USB, and just be done with it.

Quite uncertain on what to do, so suggestions would be appreciated.

No answers, so I guess nobody can help.

I have had the analog audio go out on 2 RIVE boards, the digital portion was still functional, my fix was a discrete audio card. I realize that maybe it shouldn't have went out but an aftermarket audio card is better quality and not to expensive. There are a couple of pcie slots that won't affect the X16 lane speed of your video cards.

That doesn't fix your problem, I would suggest uninstalling your audio drivers, reboot and reinstalling the drivers

I have had the onboard sound die on me too and bought a soundcard. However if I were you I would make sure the " doing some configuration on my PC" hasn't upset something. Maybe roll back with restore point or as Menthol says uninstall devices and drivers and reinstall....

When my sound went it left speakers plugged in with a constant hiss first then nothing...

I'm going to do a Win 8.1 reinstall and see if that resolves the problem, if not, I'll probably go with an external Sound card. The board works perfect otherwise, so I'm hoping for the best.

Thank you for your replies.

If your a gamer or audiophile, or watch movies a sound card is a good investment

This should be a really simple process...if you are having problems you might like to memtest86+ your RAM to make sure it is working well and not corrupting OS install. Same for error checking disk. If these are good then all you need to do is install latest LAN, Chipset and MEI drivers and everything should work fine. The MEI is one people seem to overlook and can leave a missing device in Device Manager.

Most likely the IC has taken a current surge or been zapped. There is another thread here with a couple people with the same problem. (myself included) The conclusion was to RMA as no tinkering will bring it back to life. I tried everything over a few weeks and there is nothing you can do. Just use digital, add a sound card or usb audio or RMA thats your choices. Honestly dont waste your time trying to fix it, the IC has failed. (they are sensitive to stray current)

If you have HDMI or DP cable to monitor and audio jack on monitor you can get sound out of there ....that was a temporary fix for me...
