HI Steve, For optimum performance for your drive, please install Intel AHCI/Rapid storage driver. It will not hurt to install it
A month ago I built my first PC at home based around the ASUS Z170i Pro Gaming motherboard running Windows 10 64-bit. I never installed this Intel storage driver from the download support page yet. I'm NOT running RAID on my SSD/HDD drives.
Version 14.8.0.1042 update 2016/01/07
Intel AHCI Driver Path for Windows Win7 32bit & Win7 64bit &Win8.1 64bit & Win10 64bit.
Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver software V14.8.0.1042 for Windows Win7 64bit & Win8.1 64bit---(WHQL).
Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver software V14.8.0.1042 for Windows Win7 32bit---(WHQL).
Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver software V14.8.0.1042 for Windows Win10 64bit---(WHQL).
In Device Manager I have only the Microsoft Storage Spaces Controller listed.
I'm ready to install the IRST_Win7-81-10_V14801042 from the ASUS support downloads page for my motherboard. I want to make sure I'm installing both the drivers and the software on Windows 10 64-bit properly. The folder structure is as follows:
Install (w/AsusSetup.exe and SetupRST.exe)
Driver (w/AsusSetup.exe)
- Disk (w/AsusSetup.exe)
-- 32bit (w/AsusSetup.exe)
-- 64bit (w/AsusSetup64.exe)
I'm not sure if I only run AsusSetup from the install folder, and/or AsusSetup from the disk folder, and/or AsusSetup64 from the 64bit folder if you see what I mean?
I ran the AsusSetup from the Install folder and rebooted after it was done. I have the Intel Rapid Storage Technology app now so I guess it installed everything needed?
Do you think I need to install AsusSetup from the Drivers folder as well or did it already install the driver at the same time as the software?
[EDIT] Actually under IDE ATA/ATAPI there is the Intel(R) 100 Series/C230 Chipset Family SATA AHCI Controller, same version 14.8.0.1042
