Asus Z170a and Non K intel i5 6500

Hi all! First post here. I recently built my PC for first time. I used an Asus Z170A motherboard and I have to say I love that board. Working with it for a newbie was nice.

Anyway, I don't know much about overclocking and right now I don't want to get into any overclocking. I put a Non K Intel i5 6500 processor in it and got the whole thing up and running and hooked up to the net and even installed a nice graphics card to play games with.

What I want to is: If I have the motherboard/bios set to default, will the motherboard try to overclock my non K i5? I read online that trying to overclock a non K processor can damage it. I don't want my motherboard/bios to overclock anything. I've made sure that when I look at the bios that I don't change anything and keep it all on default settings. On the motherboard I have the CPU Over Voltage jumper disabled.

Thanks

No, by default motherboards don't overclock your cpu automatically. In fact, Overclocking a non K cpu requires a bios specifically designed to do so and the Asus boards don't have them iirc. Your system should be fine the way it is, you don't have to worry about it.

Thanks for the info. Actually, I have been worried about it some what. Working with the bios and all its options is all new to me. In fact, PC building is new to me. I'm happy with my Asus Z170a board though. My PC build went very smooth. I don't want to get into overclocking yet (if at all) but I do want those top of the line motherboards that all seem to support overclocking. I want to make sure if I buy anymore motherboards and install a more expensive processor, like an i7 non K, it won't damage my processor.

Thanks!

The Z170-A is pretty, too.
I'd like to deploy my troops in her country.
