I need to buy a new SSD, but the rest of my comp is doing OK. As a result I'm looking for the best bang for my buck with what I already have; the ASUS X79 Deluxe has been a rock for me (thanks, ASUS!) and I'm looking to pair a NVMe SSD with it if possible.
That said, I have yet to install one so I'm looking for some insight from people who might have used the X79 Deluxe with NVMe.
My understanding is that I need the 4805 BIOS update to enable NVMe support. Beyond that (and assuming that's true), what caveats do I need to bear in mind? Can I pick up any NVMe drive, or am I limited to certain kinds? Will I need adapters or controllers to get everything working?
Does anyone have any suggestions or tips? Would a drive this one work?
