ASUS Rampage IV Extreme - Easy Overclock Guide

Raja
Level 13
This guide is aimed at beginners who wish to set up the R4E with a manual overclock rather than use the preset profiles.

We're going to identify the key settings to get you up and running.

Enter UEFI (BIOS) and navigate to the Ai Tweaker Menu:

4211
Set Ai OVerclock Tuner to Manual

4212
Set the desired frequency multiplier for the CPU. We recommend 43~45X depending upon your cooling.

4213
Set memory frequency to the specified speed of your memory modules.

Then simply press F10 and save and exit UEFI.

This will get you up and running quickly. After this you may with to run a stress test to check the system is stable before you begin tweaking voltages.

The only voltages you may wish to change manually are CPU Vcore, DRAM VOltage and VCCSA. There are two ways of changing Vcore, the first is Manual mode, which allows you to set a static voltage that does not change with processor frequency. The second and more desireable operating mode is Offset Mode, for which we have a guide here:

http://www.asusrog.com/forums/showthread.php?2162-Overclocking-Using-Offset-Mode-for-CPU-Core-Voltag...

We recommend that you stay under 1.40Vcore for long term use, and most CPUs should give you 4.3GHz quite happily with that level of voltage.

For further tuning information on voltages and memory timings please refer to the guide here:

Should you have any questions, please post them below and we will help you 🙂

Yes, that is wrong 🙂

Cool. Think I'll be buying one then. 🙂
Motherboard: RIVE (3602 bios)
CPU: Intel 3930K @4646MHz
OS Drive: 2 X Samsung 840 PRO (Raid 0)
Storage Drive: 2 X 1.5TB WD Caviar Black RAID 0, 2 X 3TB WD Caviar Red, Kingston V100 256GB SSD
Memory: 64GB G.SKILL Ripjaws Z (F3-12800CL10Q2-64GBZL)
GPU: Gigabyte GeForce GTX580 @795MHz - 1536MB GDDR5
PSU: OCZ ZX1250
Cooling: Phantek PH-TC14PE
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x64. (EUFI)

I have about the same setup as a poster above (3930K CPU, 16 GB Corsair Vengeance 1600). I also did overclock like described here.

Seems to run fine so far. So I really won't have to play around with voltages or are they automatically adjusted? Or should I just load the provided OC profile (it seems to OC to 4.3 GHz too)?

I also wonder what exactly got overclocked, as I understand it the Turbo mode is used if just 1 core is in usage, so original specs are 3.2 GHZ all cores used up to 3.8 GHz when 1 core is used. With a x43 multiplier is the range now 3.2 - 4.3 or 3.7 - 4.3 GHz or something else?

Also there are two modes to automatically OC the CPU and RAM, EZ Mode in BIOS or the TurboV Evo Auto Tuning software. Is the above method preferred over the auto tuning?

OMG! this is the first ever ASUS board i have purchased in my life...could not believe for the life of me how EASY it was to overclock! dude you dont even need a guide...im an overlclocking noob and my first OC was a wopping 4.6 stable (prime95 3 hrs). just used one of the presets and change the basclock down a bit and wollah!!!

I want to load extreme profile (4.95ghz) i am using i7-3930k and Corsair H100 so can i?
I did 3.70 ghz stabilty no temprature problem. Temprature was araound 60-65 celcius while testing %100 load.
Just for try i wont use that profile, i will try and set back again if i can.

And there is my system:

Case - Aerocool Stike X ST (Good Cooling with good fans)
Ram - Corsair - Vengeance (Blue one) - 16 Gb 1600 Mhz Cl-9 - 1.5v (When i select the extreme profile the voltage setting 1.65 could i do it 1.5 ?
Cooler - Corsair - H100
Nvidia - Zotac GTX 480 AMP
SSD - Corsair - Force GT 120GB
PSU - Cougar - 1200 Watt
etc.

So can i do ?

And what is diffrences between low current and high current?

Thank you.

Running the i7-3820 on a Rampage IV Formula and was trying out the "Gamers OC(4.7Mhz)" preset profile.
Now my rig should be more than capable to handle the OC but for some reason it only gets 4.3Mhz and Not 4.7Mhz???
Sure Im missing something?
Would be a great help if someone could help me out with this.

Hi
Is there anyone here who can tell me how to set up in bios
So my CPU gets up on speed 3200MHz and then the turbo is working up to 3800MHz
I run 1600MHz XMP

Now it stands at 3800MHz all the time
When I set all number of active cores Will Be set to on, go on down to 1200MHz
I just want the drops to 3200MHz not 1200MHz
CPU: Intel Core i7 3930K

Speaker: Logitech Z-906 5.1 THX, DTS
Sound Card: Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Professional

I've followed this guide with my R IV E and 3930K.
I only went for 4.3GHz to start with.

My VCore seems to be set to 1.376v. It runs at this when idle and drops to 1.36v when running IBT.
However when I run the CPU at stock speeds the VCore drops down to ~0.8v when idle and up to around 1.26v during IBT.
Is it possible to get similar behaviour when when overclocking?

CPU-z shows the multiplier drops down to x12 when idling with the OC, but the VCore stays high.

On a side note, I've got some of the 32nm Samsung Green RAM which I've heard overclocks quite nicely. Does anyone know of any guides for overclocking this RAM with a R IV E? I'm pretty new to OCing a CPU, I've not overclocked memory before (well, not intentionally, maybe as a result of OCing a CPU on older boards).

Thanks for any help/advice.

If you use offset voltage rather than manually setting voltage, then the voltage will drop at idle. That's what I've done at the moment so idle temps are still very low. My OC clock is 4.65GHz so far.

But running at stock it doesn't use offsets does it?
I didn't change any of that when I did the OC.
Also although my voltages are set to manual, they are then set to Auto in the sub-option (can't remember the names now).

hello Raja

I have ASUS Rampage IV Extreme with 1100t cpu whre do u get that software Ai Tweaker I donthave advance mode

Thanks
