ASUS Rampage IV Extreme - Easy Overclock Guide

This guide is aimed at beginners who wish to set up the R4E with a manual overclock rather than use the preset profiles.

We're going to identify the key settings to get you up and running.


Enter UEFI (BIOS) and navigate to the Ai Tweaker Menu:

Set the desired frequency multiplier for the CPU. We recommend 43~45X depending upon your cooling.

Set memory frequency to the specified speed of your memory modules.





Then simply press F10 and save and exit UEFI.

This will get you up and running quickly. After this you may with to run a stress test to check the system is stable before you begin tweaking voltages.

The only voltages you may wish to change manually are CPU Vcore, DRAM VOltage and VCCSA. There are two ways of changing Vcore, the first is Manual mode, which allows you to set a static voltage that does not change with processor frequency. The second and more desireable operating mode is Offset Mode, for which we have a guide here:

We recommend that you stay under 1.40Vcore for long term use, and most CPUs should give you 4.3GHz quite happily with that level of voltage.

Hey Puppet 37, if you want the volts to drop in line with clocks you have to set offset voltage not manual voltage. And of course have EIST (speedstep) enabled but I guess that part you do. Also check your power options as Zka17 suggested. ballanced or high performance (with minimum processor speed, in advanced power plan options, set to 10%)

Basically this is a little trial and error to get back to the stable manual voltage you have found. By the way the flicking between those two voltages at load is entirely normal...not instability. Set LLC MED and see. Whatever stable manual voltage you find in CPUz that is what you want to see in offset mode too. So, set minimum offset +0.005 and boot up and run a stress test.

If you have a higher load voltage than your manual one: go back and set negative offset...-0.005 and then keep changing offset by 0.005 until you reach your manual load voltage....-0.01, -0.015,...
Be careful setting a large negative offset because idle voltage drops by the same offset amount and can become unstable even though the load voltage is good.

If you have a lower load voltage (which I doubt) increase positive offset...+0.01, +0.015

With those CPUs if you want to clock higher...you have to change th estrap to 125BCLK and then you lose all the offset and speedstep advantages...and end up with constant voltage just like manual voltage...

Thanks for the help guys, i m still finding lower vcore. Then i will follow your sugestion Arne Saknussemm. And i believe this cpu is good for overclock due to lower vcore to reach 4.3 Ghz(i believe) but i m stuck to the multiplier. But this speed is good for me, with low temps too. best regards

Yeah, find your lowest stable manual voltage first and then have a play with offset. 4.3GHz is a good gaming and 24/7 OC and lets you keep all the power saving features. let us know how you get on! 🙂

Now i m testing offset voltage, i put -0.050. Gives me 1.24~1.232 on cpuz, testing for 10 minutes and no errors. Can i put a higher multiplier like x44 or x45 in this cpu? if not, its not a problem because like you said Arne Saknussemm this is a good speed for gaming. Best regards

What idle voltage does that offset give you? but sounds good as long as you are stable at load and at idle...The multiplier I'm not sure about....I thought 43 was max (around 100BCLK) multiplier but some people seem to get 44x too? or maybe they can input 44 in BIOS but still get 43...test that maybe...

You can also change BCLK slightly....like 101 or 102 or 103...but this affects RAM frequency and PCIe bus frequency so just a couple of points added try 43x102? that sort of thing...

But save your current OC profile...since BCLK changes might lead to no boot and clear CMOS....

The vcore on idle is 1.008, so far so good. And i run prime for 1h with no errors. I will save this setting and try to change to 44, just to see if is possible.
