ASUS Rampage IV Extreme - Easy Overclock Guide

Raja
Level 13
This guide is aimed at beginners who wish to set up the R4E with a manual overclock rather than use the preset profiles.

We're going to identify the key settings to get you up and running.

Enter UEFI (BIOS) and navigate to the Ai Tweaker Menu:

4211
Set Ai OVerclock Tuner to Manual

4212
Set the desired frequency multiplier for the CPU. We recommend 43~45X depending upon your cooling.

4213
Set memory frequency to the specified speed of your memory modules.

Then simply press F10 and save and exit UEFI.

This will get you up and running quickly. After this you may with to run a stress test to check the system is stable before you begin tweaking voltages.

The only voltages you may wish to change manually are CPU Vcore, DRAM VOltage and VCCSA. There are two ways of changing Vcore, the first is Manual mode, which allows you to set a static voltage that does not change with processor frequency. The second and more desireable operating mode is Offset Mode, for which we have a guide here:

http://www.asusrog.com/forums/showthread.php?2162-Overclocking-Using-Offset-Mode-for-CPU-Core-Voltag...

We recommend that you stay under 1.40Vcore for long term use, and most CPUs should give you 4.3GHz quite happily with that level of voltage.

For further tuning information on voltages and memory timings please refer to the guide here:

http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?5835-ASUS-Rampage-IV-Extreme-UEFI-Guide-for-Overclocking&co...=

Should you have any questions, please post them below and we will help you 🙂

If you want to push past 4.5GHz while understanding the risks and relationship between frequency and current then there is no need to ask for my approval.

Hello,

I've read your guide on Offset Mode but I Dont find on the RIVE Bios the line Vcore Phase Control and the line Vcore Load line calibration. Can you show me what are these lines in the RIVE Bios. Actually for my I7 3820 the Core Voltage = 1,376 V for load at 4,3 GHZ, it seems a little high ?
Thank You for you help ( Sorry for my poor english)

@ Raja,
I just got into a R4G and 3820 setup. It is SO easy to OC lol. without changing any voltages it went to 4.75 stable, 4.9 @ 1.414, and 5.0 @ 1.46, unbelievable pieces of hardware these Rampage boards. They really make OCing noobfriendly for the starting guys. I cannot believe how much easier OCing on the Rampage boards is than on the Crosshair boards, it baffles me TBH.

Anyway thanks for the guides you do for the new boards that are released, they are very informative and helpful!

The voltage seems to be dependent on the multi you are using so you don't even have to manually change the voltage to get a decent overclock using the multiplier alone. So with a multi of 46x in my case, the corresponding voltage is ~1.35V. When it downclocks at idle, the voltage corresponds to the multi of 12x which is around 0.8V. Now, if 1.35V wasn't stable with the multi of 46x, I could use an offset to increase that by a certain amount and it would mean the voltage with a multi of 12x would also be offset by that amount. The great thing is that the idle voltage although not as low as before would still be much lower than setting the absolute voltage manually.

So how do you get it to drop down to 0.8v at x12 and got up to 1.35v (or whatever) at x46?
I only tried 4.3GHz and it seemed stable, but the VCore didn't drop back to 0.8v when the multi dropped to x12.

C1E needs to be enabled.

I have a question about the VCCSA. My g.skill ares kit has a XMP profile with a VCCSA of 1.25. I've heard this is unusually high and could probably be lowered closer to 1.1. What's the best approach here? Should I start with the 1.25 and step it down, or should I try lower first? I'm not trying to get any kind of overclock, just optimize it for its 1600 rating.

Also, what's the relationship between VCCSA and VTT?

Any help is much appreciated!

I was too having initially problems with GSKill RAM running at default speed 1600MHz @1.5v. I was recoomended to use XMP and run the VCCSA and VTT at 1.2. But I managed to run it at 1.1 for both. Turbo boost on of course. But I still monitoring the situation.
Change is the law of life. And those who look only to the past or present are certain to miss the future.

You can reduce it in small steps and check for stability. I generally keep VTT and VCCSA close. Intel have not stipulated any DC coupling, but a general rule is to at least observe the stock delta between these rails as you increase voltage.

Hey guys. I have a decent setup (see sig) but i am horrible at OCing. Ive tried the step up function and my rig becomes unstable. I was wondering if someone could check over my setup and help advise me what to set in my BIOS so i can get this guy up past 4? Thanks!
