ASUS Rampage IV Extreme - Easy Overclock Guide

Raja
Level 13
This guide is aimed at beginners who wish to set up the R4E with a manual overclock rather than use the preset profiles.

We're going to identify the key settings to get you up and running.

Enter UEFI (BIOS) and navigate to the Ai Tweaker Menu:

4211
Set Ai OVerclock Tuner to Manual

4212
Set the desired frequency multiplier for the CPU. We recommend 43~45X depending upon your cooling.

4213
Set memory frequency to the specified speed of your memory modules.

Then simply press F10 and save and exit UEFI.

This will get you up and running quickly. After this you may with to run a stress test to check the system is stable before you begin tweaking voltages.

The only voltages you may wish to change manually are CPU Vcore, DRAM VOltage and VCCSA. There are two ways of changing Vcore, the first is Manual mode, which allows you to set a static voltage that does not change with processor frequency. The second and more desireable operating mode is Offset Mode, for which we have a guide here:

http://www.asusrog.com/forums/showthread.php?2162-Overclocking-Using-Offset-Mode-for-CPU-Core-Voltag...

We recommend that you stay under 1.40Vcore for long term use, and most CPUs should give you 4.3GHz quite happily with that level of voltage.

For further tuning information on voltages and memory timings please refer to the guide here:

Should you have any questions, please post them below and we will help you 🙂

When you say to actively cool the VRMs, which heatsink should I cool? The one by the CPU power connectors, the one by the I/O panel, or the one by the first PCI-ex slot? Or all 3?

The one by the CPU power connectors - the FETs are underneath.

Thanks for the quick response. I put a 120mm fan blowing across the top area of the board from front to back at VRM level, secured to the push fan of my H100. If that doesn't do it, I can always throw an extra Dominator airflow fan on it, but temps seem really good so far.

I had some prob with getting this platform stable, but hard work pays off..

This is my 24/7 default today... very solid. and i am proud of this OC, and for the stability, i ended up with..

Its i fine line around 4,95 (my chip)

Over 4,95 (my chip), dont get so stable as i would like 2, and 5,+ sucking voltage as a freak..

I got it benchmark ready for 5,2, more i cant/wont clock higher, due to heat issues..

But it runs great at 4,911 low voltage.. and moves a lot of data.. 3930K

And i run my 1866 at around 2000 mhz... 1,6-1,65

Its not all in the cpu...

idle temp 31c

Hi I'm a newbie at this but after I OC my 3930k with the RIVE my core speed/multiplier on CPUID does not decrease when there is low load. It simply states I'm at 4400Mhz at 44x multiplier and a bus speed of 100Mhz..

Shouldn't it act like when it is on stock settings that the core speed would be lower when there is little to no load and increase as my cpu load increases?

I used an XMP profile rather than manual on my settings so I could use my Vengeance on 1600 rather than the 1333.

What am I missing on here? Thanks in advance.

The Extreme profiles are for sub-zero cooling only, I would not use those for ambient cooling methods.

So if i load that profile my cooling system wont be enough for it?

And what is subzero cooling you mean professional cooling?

If you want to OC that far it is better to do it in steps manually as no two CPUs are the same and there is no magic bullet for votlages at those frequencies.

Probably because you are using a 3820 which is CPU multiplier limited.

Thanks for the quick reply man.

Is there a way around it? As I'm sure you've seen that this chip can be OC'd to 5Mhz.
Id be happy with between 4.5Mhz or a 4.7Mhz.

Thanks again.
