ASUS Rampage IV Extreme - Easy Overclock Guide

This guide is aimed at beginners who wish to set up the R4E with a manual overclock rather than use the preset profiles.

We're going to identify the key settings to get you up and running.


Enter UEFI (BIOS) and navigate to the Ai Tweaker Menu:


Set Ai OVerclock Tuner to Manual







Set the desired frequency multiplier for the CPU. We recommend 43~45X depending upon your cooling.







Set memory frequency to the specified speed of your memory modules.





Then simply press F10 and save and exit UEFI.

This will get you up and running quickly. After this you may with to run a stress test to check the system is stable before you begin tweaking voltages.

The only voltages you may wish to change manually are CPU Vcore, DRAM VOltage and VCCSA. There are two ways of changing Vcore, the first is Manual mode, which allows you to set a static voltage that does not change with processor frequency. The second and more desireable operating mode is Offset Mode, for which we have a guide here:

We recommend that you stay under 1.40Vcore for long term use, and most CPUs should give you 4.3GHz quite happily with that level of voltage.

I have installed 32gb corsair dominator gt rated at 2000mhz cl9 but cant seems to run above 1600mhz when set in bios. Will always get bsod in windows. Anyone got similar problems or any solution to this?

thats very strange. my old pc i had exactly the same problem....the high speed ram just wouldnt go over 1600. i then found out that some ram modules just dont work well with certain motherboards.

strangely enough though on my new pc: i own the RE4 and have 32GB of corsair dominater 2133 and it works perfectly even at 2200+!!! stable and all..

my question for you is are those ram modules built for the latest socket 2011 MBs??? i.e are they from an official quad channel kit??? if not that may be your reason...

i know it clearly says "Set your ram speed at the speed of the modules". for me its 1600 MHz. but does that mean i can not overclock it? im new to ram overclocks. i would like to run my 1600 ram at 1866. ive tried setting it to that but the board doesnt start. is there a way or do i have to buy 1866 ram? thank yoiu

Try 4.5GHz first and see what kind of Vcore you need to get that stable. Don't shoot for 5GHz too soon; not all CPUs can do it. Also, if you are going to run stress tests then make sure you place a fan over the CPU VRM heatsink.

You will need to offset DRAM timings and possibly increase DRAM voltage to facilitate the higher operating frequency. First thing I would do is add +1 to CAS and tRCD in the DRAM timing section of UEFI and see if the board will POST. If it will not, you can try increasing DRAM voltage by 0.05V and see if the system will POST. If not. then move on to the third timings in the DRAM page and try offsetting those by +3 clocks. No POST there means your memory is "no good for overclocking".

ahh, no luck. i have the corsair vengeance 16 GB 1600 MHz kit (the non-XMP one). but it still have one XMP profile. i tried using that too, but i cudnt overclock it. im sure there is a way to do it, but cant seem to get all the variables dialed in correctly. either way, im very happy with what i have right now. its already at 7.9 on windows experience index.

At the begining of this thread I have done the following...

By all cores (Can Adjust in OS) - tried changing the value from 'Auto' to 43 and whenever I do, the moment I move down the screen, the field resets to 'Auto' again

How do I get it to save the value Im inputting??
