Asus Rampage IV Extreme + Corsair H100 research/help

Hello,

I'm doing a 'baby' upgrade from current Rampage III Extreme to a Rampage IV Extreme in the coming weeks. (new cpu of course!)

In doing so, i got an H100.

But, i noticed that while some seem to have no issues, there are lots at the corsair forums who have issues with the H100 on the Rampage IV. In the end, it appears to fit but with many difficulties.

I'm still confused a bit as i've heard people say both; change the backplate vs not changing it, etc.

Can anyone here, give the impressions they have if they have done it and what to look out for and if it works/how to do it in the easiest way they found?

Regards,

Sanjay

no you definitely don't change the backplate... the way the R4E comes is exactly right for mounting the H100...

i too was very concerned about the mounting issues before attempting to install it... the fix is very simple though... if the holes don't line up just right the first way you try... just rotate the head 90 degrees and they should line up perfectly...

i think the issue is that people want the head to be a certain direction... and don't want to consider rotating it 90 degrees.

I had to change the backplate for the X shaped one on the H80, otherwise i had to put too much force on 1 of the 4 pins to make it fit.

Spoken from someone who has experience with this and spent some time looking at all the different ways to mount it.

1: You don't need the X-Bracket if you have the 2011 Screws.

2: I you want to Mount it the correct orientation with Corsair reading Corsair without it being slanted on the side, you might need to do the following:

- Take a pair of pliers and bend all 4 tabs upwards just a little not too much, if your worried about scratching the black paint on the tabs, take a cloth and cover where your pliers will be bending.

- Loosen up all 4x LGA2011 screws on the LGA2011 bracket, as in have them screwed in a bit but only half or maybe a quarter of the way in, then place the water/pump block on the screws (it might be tight and you might have to force it down a little with some force but it will go in without too much trouble), and start screwing in the thumb screws in to tighten up the 4 screws. Do this evenly by doing say top left then bottom right, then bottom left top right.

3. You can mount it with almost ZERO issues if you mount it on the side with the waterblock reading Corsair reading upwards instead of horizontally.

Number 2 worked for me and that's how I got mine installed. It's tight, very tight but it works.

I own the H80 and do not use the X-Bracket at all.
LGA2011 mounting screws worked just fine.

With the up right orientation, I can't force it down, mismatch so big.

Not sure if I bend the tabs, the block still sitting flat on the CPU or not.
Almost do the item 2 same as InnervateD wrote above, but I decided to rotate it 90 degree counterclock wise
and the block just go down smoothly.
I don't like its look but I like how its fit just right, no force, no stress, no worries
Your call StarFyre

BTW when I'm not OC , my CPU temp is between 26 to 29 degree C. Is it normal like every one with the H100 ?? TIA

mine is rotated 180 degrees from the last pic... i found the hoses were less resistant that way

Im not sure about other people, but i know mine installed perfectly fine with the corsair name being linear to everything else. All i had to do was swap the x socket backplate (my r4e came with it on) with the 2011 backplate and it was done. However perhaps it is a hit and miss with the h100 fitting as i know mine is defective (one of the fan ports on it doesn't work and i cant change the speed of the pump with the button on it)7565
